Hope everyone is ok from this past weekends storms. My store was closed for several hours and running on a generator for awhile. Our power situation is good now.
Were going through overtime like crazy to restock our shelves after having to throw out tons of pershiable good. But here is the funny thing. Our zone manager approved only 90 hours for the whole week. We burned through that on Sunday. So he just had to bite the bullet and allow us the time we need.
Since my store was for a few days one of only two in the area that were open, we've had some corporate and key retailing big wigs in the store, and guess what they are complaining about? Overtime. Even with a natural disaster they still worry about their bonuses and not helping people get what they need.
How many hours was your power off. Ours was down for about 4 - 5 hours and all we really lost was anything hot. We put plastic over all the cold bunkers.

Wednesday night our store freezers went crazy and I've heard that a lot of what was in the freezer room got destroyed. I was there last night and all the bakery boxes were taken away (to another freezer that went out later so it's gone too) So i don't know what to expect when i go in tomorrow.
There was a lot of overtime given because they wanted to clear out the frozen aisles. I'm sure there's going to be hour cuts soon because of this.
Our power was out for 3 or 4 hours Friday, then sometime Saturday the generator failed for the better part of the early morning. We didn't open until 10 a.m. and were a 24 hour store. And the store didn't open until 11 Sunday. Just so we could throw some stuff out.
If they don't like overtime, what about plummeting sales, since nobody likes shopping in the dark...If people just up and left and did nothing during a power outage, imagine the shrink! And I remember the huge blackout from several years ago, when there were problems with the power grid...there must have been seven or eight dumpsters full of bad product that we couldn't sell...ice cream, meat, and frozen alone was just awful...This was a different store I was at at the time, but you get my drift...We can't forget about that...It was an absolute nightmare...And at the other store I worked at, someone was always either hitting an electric line, or a storm would knock out power...a few times, in fact...At one point, I remember when they had to borrow a scale from the deli just to weigh things up, and use a calculator, because they couldn't get the registers working...flashlights everywhere...fun, fun, fun!
