I don't understand how Kroger can justify hiring more people while cutting the hours of full-time cashiers to less than 40 a week. I also don't understand why there are so many errors in the way the computer does the scheduling. Every week people with less senority are scheduled to come in earlier than those with more. It really diminishes my drive to do a good job when I (hired in 1994) come in 4 to midnight and grocery, produce, red vest and office are all on register. I think this practice is aimed at union busting. I think this is grossly unfair and improper scheduling. I don't think Kroger should be allowed to call in part-time workers without moving up the people who were already scheduled or at least calling them in by senority. What really is a kick in the gut is that we get no respect from the management or head cashiers. I think the red vest should never be on register. I think they should schedule enough baggers for every casher, plus all the produce, grocery, office and red vests they have on register. Remember when we had baggers to do carry-outs, clean floors and do go-backs? A bagger gets a better view of the cart than the cashiers and could do a lot to prevent shrink. I know is it all about the money. Kroger head honchos care about their bonuses and the stockholders. toledoBlade Compensation rises to $8.0M for Kroger CEO - Any of that going trickle down to the bottom of the food chain?
The point is with all this expensive elms technology and a Head Cashier having this as their job. It should be done correctly or they should be held accountable. Shows a real lack of respect for loyal employees and creates a whole lot of ill will.
