I'm going to be a certified qualified assistant produce manager once my 8-week training program is over. I'm just curious on if it takes a really long time, or if it only takes a year or less.
You are ahead of the game! In Ft Wayne they say they dont have a training program in place yet so we have people who are waiting for a store. Myself I think its a stall but who knows for sure.
In my contract (Atlanta) after 6 months as an assistant department head you are eligible for promotion to department head. Of course there are other factors that influence this, such as seniority, performance, and availability of a department head position.
I've been with Kroger for 7 years now. I have 6 years in my department, but they seem to promote based upon favoritism.
yep.
I was passed up for promotion 6 times, in my 13 years. that means, after the first one, there was a opening for kitchen head, 6 different times.
first two, OK, they had been there longer, but after that, i had senority over all after that.
in fact, on two different occassions, we went without a head, for multiple weeks, untill they could get someone to transfer from another store.
thier reason ?
even thou i had 24/avalibilty, they always sceduled me closing, said they couldn't spare me, to put me on another shift ever, and need someone that worked days to be head.
Company policy dictates one thing: "Work hard, get ahead, follow the rules." Reality is another thing.
I became a salaried manager at Walmart for reasons I still don't understand: I would leave early, sometimes drink my lunch, often times fk some of the help (whom, in turn, would turn me in and bitch about me). Some of them I still do!
There's no rhyme or reason to who gets promoted or why. My 'advice'----if any--- would be to be nice, get along with others, work hard and kiss ass.
