Wage Adjustment

I was hired by Kroger (SW District 10 store 537)  2 weeks ago

When I interviewed, the Recruiter told me that with my work experience I would make $12.80/h Full-Time, I accepted the job (could you blame me, try and turn down that kind of money.)

Well, I noticed that my ExpressHR profile said my pay-rate was $7.50/h, I contacted the Recuiter and she said It'll take 2 weeks for approval and that it'd be retroactively applied (I actually have that on voicemail)

2 weeks are about up and I'm not seeing any adjustment, my coworkers said that I shouldn't expect to see it.

How should I handle this? I signed with the union, should I get them involved?

Here is what has happened in my local 540 with a member we had but quit later. With your pay rate you are probably in local 1000 and the similarities. This Kma has a reputation of classifying everyone as part time until they can verify employment history. I have run into a number of times that they have done this. From what our union rep has stated ( at monthly meetings) kroger will usually only make one cal to verify past work and if they have to leave a message then they will look at it as this. Why6 should we need to verify it ? They will seldom make that second call unless management or the union pushes them to do so. Most of the Recruiters will sell you a bag of goods that are usually bad. Most of them do not know and can not say for sure, so they will tell you what you want to here and leave it at that. Now if you have a good long term store manager, then they can usually get it fixed and get the back pay on it for you. But most do not want to do that.

What you need to do is see what happens on the third check. If it is not right then contact your union rep. Not the shop steward but the rep. If not a member they have to represent you but not at the expense of the dues paying members first. Most contracts gives you 30 days to challenge your pay rate. Do not wait for two or three months. Sign the card and push your rep to follow up on it and stay on top of them. Local 1000 has some great reps but also some poor and slow ones too. It is like this. The longer you wait then the more argument you will get from kroger to give you the right pay rate WITH BACK PAY. Do not be surprised if Kroger desides to raise your rate up to the top level of the part timer and claim that you have to earn the full time hours and rates. Without union reps they may do that. They tried that several times with members of our local540.

Again it is not unusual for them to have someone placed in at the lower level pay rates until everything is verified. That is never more that one week with sometimes two. If it is more that that, then you have a problem. If you have tried your payroll clerk, store manager and recruiter and nothing is there in week three, then get the union involved.

Kroger , last year had to pay out about $400,000.00 if back pay issues in the SWKMA. If not for the union, then they would have pocketed that money and then some.

There is also a copy of your contract ( local 1000) on Krogertalk.com

Also consider keeping constand pressure on local 1000 to stay on top of it. They have a bad reputation of letting things do or slide.

just chill out another week or two.  these things take time and give them the benefit of doubt for now.  never listen to your fellow co workers b/c they are more than willing to speak negatively about anything.  wait it out some more then if it don't come thru ......
