Local 655 Pay
Permalink

Hello,

I'm waiting for a copy of my contract to get here, but in the mean time could someone possibly help me. I used to work for Voss Distributing, which is a company that sells and merchandises Red Bull. While there I was making $10/hr, and worked in the retail world. I've also worked for Coca-Cola, working directly in retail and was making $9.15/hr. My question is based on my experience would I qualify for a higher pay rate? They started me at $7.25/hr and I'm eligble for a 5 cent raise on Feb 28, 2013. Just wondering because min wage seems really low for an experienced retail worker.

Welcome to Kroger. Maybe, just maybe, if you'd worked for another grocery chain, you might have received more. There's going to be more surprises for you if you stay. I, personally, would be looking for something else on my day off. Try Publix as well.

if you believe the recruters then let me sell you some swamp lant in the arizona desert.

Thing that I am finding to be true in this area. The recruters will promiss you full time but Kroger is going to place you at part time rates until you earn the full time status.

They have , on many times, told meat help that they would be given credit for experiance if they worked in packing houses or similar areas.

HR says no that it needs to be experiance in retail and in markets and perishable areas.

The recruters will not spend the time to varify employment history but rather let the job fall on you.

If they can let that 30 challenge pass, then it comes down to having to get a union rep to help get it corrected and even then quite some time to get it done.

last conversation with the union bisiness rep stated that kroger will generally only make one call to varify the employment and will not call back if they get a voice mail, but rather wait for them to get back to kroger.

other thing is that HR will take the stance of the pay is right because the employee did not challenge the pay rate when they had the chance. Most of the time it is not brought to their attention until several moths past.

Well I went in and talked to the store manager about it, and based on my past experience they did increase my pay and are going to pay me the due back pay. However it wasn't much of a raise being compared to what I was making, they can't match my pay because it would violate the union they can only base it on my tenure, and since Kroger tenure raises are so low it didn't amount to much. But I chalk it up to a victory on my part since i did get them to give me a raise.
