This is a rant about a rude customer. I was off work today. I went to get my check and then went to deposit it. I went back by the store took my laptop in to starbucks. A lady was sitting by me. I was talking to one of my co-workers. We were not loud at all. This lady did have headphones in her ear. She said "yall could keep it down" now I just looked at the co worker and just kind of laughed. He asked me something and I said it out real loud. I figured I would have a little fun. She mumbled "thats real funny" we kelp talking but this time I was whispering and she said again "thats real funny" so I just closed my laptop and got up. My co-worker asked where I was going. I told him "I am goign home where it is peace and quite"What bothered me was the way she said it. She could have asked nicely and everything would have been fine. I am not sure if she knew I was an employee or not. I do not care. I find it funny when I whispered she heard me with earphones in her ear.
Similar things have happened to me. Some customers seem to think that retailing employees are somehow owned like slaves. That they can say or do whatever to you wheather you are on or off duty. I think that everone out there should have to work out in the public for at least one year. Then see how their attitude changes.
I was sick one day and went to a Kroger on the other side of town to get my meds filled. It was busy when I got there and the register area was crowed. I was walking past there to get to the pharmacy and stepped toward the end of a register to get out of a ladies way. When I did that another customer was bagging her own groceries. I recognized her from shopping in the store where I work, and I guess she recognized and assumed I transferred stores.
As I stepped towards the lady bagging her own groceries she steps away like I'm coming over to help her, and gives me a dirty look when I don't bag her stuff. Not only did I not work at that store, I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt with John Lennon on it. She was seriously staring me down because I didn't help her. I just hope she went to a manager to complain. The only people who know me at that store are people I've worked with in the past, and none of them were working then.
A couple days ago I had a customer that got rude with me because I didn't know what the sale price of an item was. As if I'm, as a cashier, supposed to know every sale in the store.
My first week on the job one of the customers in my line, an express line, came through with around 5 items. She was an old lady and quite crabby. The person she was there with was bagging her stuff, but she got all pissy and insisted that I was to bag them. Just wanting to get rid of her, I did. The next day I found out that she'd called customer service and complained about me because of it, and I got lectured by management about not being friendly enough... Total crap.
The next customer in line even started complaining about how lazy she was. I found that rather funny.
