I don't know about other Meat Departments, but it always seems like alot of the Seafood Managers are bitches. I had to be in Seafood for 2 days and had to setup the counter. I've only done it maybe 3 times so far. Well, shes mad because I got the overtime in my department and told me "im gonna earn that money". Well, I have the case PERFECTLY set and after I left she comes in and nitpicks at every little thing. She said, "Wrong Divider for Cooked Shrimp", "You didn't put ice on top" and "The case looks like crap". Well I did something she couldn't do in an 8 hour period the next day. I was able to setup seafood by 9:30 AM and have Salmon Burgers done. She came in again and said I dont have enough ice on top and that SHE wasn't impressed by the job I did. Photos speak for themselves?
I work at a high-end Kroger store. Its in a melting pot of Rich, Poor, and the Middle Class. We sell everything from Prime Ribeye to Split Pigs Feet. lol

Dude, that looks rather nice for a conventional grocer! All the product looks fresh and good quality (most important part!), is laid out nicely (color breaks, etc.), signed properly (also important), I think you have a royal kunt bucket on your hands!
This is a professional opinion too, I was a long time FredMeyer seafood manager, I just recently quit and got hired on at Whole Foods. I seriously recommend ANYONE working at Kroger, if you can deal with it, look into a job at Whole Foods if they are in your area. I took a pay cut of a couple dollars an hour, and went down to just Seafood Team Member (ie clerk). Still Full time, full benefits (after 400 hours! and they're FANTASTIC comparatively), and since I was somewhat lucky, have a shot at being Associate Team Leader (asst. manager) after only 4 months basically! And at that position i'd make more per hour than I was at FM, and add on top the (imagine this!) labor sharing bonus!
Yes we actually get money for being efficient. If we spend less than our alloted labor percentage of sales every period, that goes into our team account to be divided amongst the team members based on a formula. Everyone gets the same amount per hour. Last month we did great and I got an extra $200 or so! Has been as high as $400.
Anyway, thats a perfectly nice seafood display, and your retarded seafood manager is, well, retarded.Like most Kroger seafood managers...they give us good Kroger fish guys a bad name!
been a market manager for over 7 years and do not see anything wrong with the case you set. Seen worse from some experianced sea food managers. I try to look at it this way. If I have to set the case ( and I have only set a seafood case a falf dozen times in the last 10 years ) and they want to bitch then wait till I make the next schedule and see how much they really bitch. I try to look at it this was. If they ( one setting the cases ) does not have the experiance the department head has, then be gratefull and thank them if it looks good. may not always be the the companies highest standards but it looks good and be happy. Bitching any makes one out to be an ass and pisses of the good help you got.
had a seafood manager once do that to one of my meat clerks once and the case looked good and better than I could do. Next time up I set it and really gave them something to bitch about.
