I went in for an interview for a loss prevention position a few days ago and everything went pretty well. I wasnt hired on the spot but I was given a drug test, and told they would call in 5-7 days after the results came back from the background check and drug test.  would u say I got the job or should I look elsewhere?

Sounds promising, but it couldn't hurt to keep looking if you have other leads.

 Well, that depends on whether or not you have something to hide.

Never been in troube with the law so there is nothing on my record. Im not worried about that. I was just a little confused because ive never been asked to take a drug test without being offered the position.

Shelly, that's standard every where you go these days. I wouldn't sweat that detail. Plus, most retailers take at least a week or more to get back with you on the job offer; they contract out their drug/back ground checks.

Our Kroger store does a drug test right in the store. It's a giant Q-Tip thingy that sits in your mouth until it's dripping with spit. Then it's put into a plastic sleeve with some sort of fluid in it and it tests your spit for illegal drugs and recent alcohol intake. I don't think they send it out to a lab.

There are a few different background checks. Some versions only take a few minutes to get results back, while a 10-year background check may take up to a week.

If they're paying for a drug test, I'd say you have the job. I didn't get drug tested until after I was hired, but had a BG check before I was officially hired.

Does the above advice seem sound? Nawwww, me either. I'd keep looking if you have job leads.

I dont have any leads just applying to different places. I was going to call them tomorrow but i dont know what to say. you seem to know a lot could you help me out

and this particular Kroger is non union distribution center. idk if that matters or not

No way they let anyone start working inside a D.C. unless they drug fee- u hafta operate a lot of power equipment plus the hellhole is full of other people zipping around on forklifts, lift trucks, and pallet jacks- last thing anyone needs is somebody all doped up or drunk.

Drug testing and background checks are a standard part of the pre-employment screening process. You should also have a slightly more in-depth background check for loss prevention that may include credit check and employment verification. These take awhile. I'd continue to look for the simple fact that without a job offer you are still, technically, unemployed.
