"needs of the business" and what not. I've been scheduled in the meat shop before and have 0 intentions of cutting a single slice of meet. They have every right as an employer to put you doing something... but nothing is stopping you from sucking at it.

I've been working at Kroger for about six months and was hired to work in Produce.
Since winter is coming the hours are being cut in my department.
I was told yesterday that I wasn't going to working in produce anymore for an unknown amount of time and I would now be bagging up front.
My question is...
Can they do that?
This is the second time I've read about produce hrs being cut because of winter. My business' produce hrs stay full year round; customers always shop that area.
Sounds to me like Kroger is blowing smoke your way.
My question to you is, did they tell you your pay would be cut to bagger pay when moving you? Your situation sux if you're getting reduced hours at a reduced pay rate.
That is what happened to me....but my Asst Mgr told me I'd only be in the different dept for a "few days and my pay rate wouldn't change"....that was a month ago, and YES, my pay DID change, along with my job title. Now the Asst Mgr is nowhere to be found and on "Special Assignment" out-of-state for the next 5 weeks.
It sux to be me, too.
Kroger seems to think, "at least you have a job". But, with deductions taken from that reduced pay for dues, insurance and 401k, there is VERY little net pay being brought home to the family table.
I have filed a claim at the State Unemployment Office for Partial Benefits because of a "reduction in hours".
This is also the second topic I've seen about produce hours being cut. My main department is produce and my hours are actually increasing! I also work in grocery and front end, but those hours are not stable they are just whatever the department had left to give out and those hours were cut down a bit, but that is mainly due to my availability.
