I watched the KTV today at 1 pm today in regards to the conversion of the "fluff pack" to prepackaged net weight. Kroger has done prepackaged beef for many years, but most consumers can't really tell the difference, because of the way the package is presented. Now, what I find interesting is they're putting it into plastic trays like the patties as well making it very obvious this is prepackaged meat with a very long shelf life. They're introducing this in the Southwest. I will be very curious as it upholds to HEB down in the Houston Area and how it will impact our sales when it is very obvious that it isn't packaged on site. You would think that Kroger would have learned that there are certain things you just dont tamper with to the general public like the whole 'pink slime' incident. They dropped the ball on that one and will likely do so in doing exactly the opposite the customer wants.

i dunno we have those fluff pack patties here and just like any new product, it takes a while to get started, but they've taken off selling pretty decent. they are a lot cheaper than the old random weight patties and at least around here that's the big thing people are looking at

I noticed recently these beef patties packaged on a Styrofoam tray. Are those the ones you are talking about?

No, those are the ones they're getting rid of and replacing it with plastic see through trays. Its very obvious that they're now prepack unless the styrofoam trays and instead of getting 3 days they'll now get up to 2 weeks. I've tried some of this meat and the regular styrofoam prepack is slightly dry, but the clear plastic trays are COMPLETELY dry. They have no tastes and I won't serve it to my guests. If I do any serving to my guest i'll make the hamburger myself.

Okay AnonymousCutter , this is what Ronnie Shrek and our MR told me today. The groung beef will still come packaged as it does right now and in air packages as it does now. We will take it out and still date it as we do now. Only thing is that it will come in set weights. 1 or 1.25 pounds , some 3 pound packages and a possibility of a 5# package in the future. The only real change is that they will be exact fixed wieght priced.

Also the 93% lean is gone and discontinued.

 

That is wht I was told for not but we also know that things can change down the road.

Been in a few HEBs when I go down to south Texas. They still do their own instore gringing per store. Had a market manager there tell me that they was talking about a preground program but never heard anything els on it.

 

One of the biggest reason Kroger whent to the prepacked ground beef ( not the only one but one of the bigg reasons ) the liability issues or contamination and law suites.

Wow, why would they get rid of 93/7 ground beef? It is our best seller and has been for mainstream stores for years! I know plenty of customers whom are going to be pissed off because it meets their dietary needs and medical conditions.

 i had to wonder that myself. wee sell more of it than we do sirloin or any of the nolans or lauras ground beef.

Defiantly not customet 1st anymore. I had always wondered why we dont carry 93/7 in a chub.

now Wallyworld ( Walmart ) does and HEB does. And HEB still does instore grinding.
