People in my store don't mind their business at ALL. That's why there's so much drama between employees . You can spill something on the floor in the lounge . Within 5 minute the customer rep downstairs on the other side of the store will know . I've been a victim already of people here not minding their business which is why I got called in the managers office last week . Since then I don't really talk to anybody except other baggers since their all my age and I can relate to them . I feel like I'm the only one who in the store doesn't care what everybody else is doing . Your on your phone ? It isn't my phone I could care less . Your talking on the phone ? It isn't my phone call . Your stealing candy off the candy cart ? I'm not doing it .. You get caught .. You deal with it . I'm just wondering if the employees in your store are just as nosy as in mine.
This is why i've avoided adding people as friends on Facebook and things like that. I don't want to be paranoid but at the same time you have to know how much to trust people. There's one person I trust more than anyone else in my store and we talk but with some people I just know when to keep my mouth shut.
Of course there are. It's human nature, for the most part. Or, should I say, the pack mentality. I don't tell anyone anything that I don't mind everyone knowing. Of course, I'm not in my teens or 20's anymore and I have a good set of friends outside of work. I have work people I like, but I'm not FB friends with them, nor do I socialize outside of work with anyone. I have nothing against anyone I work with, I just prefer to keep work and social separated.
I have my managers and what not on my facebook, but i haven't posted anything in a negative way. In fact, i've invited a few of them for a nice Halloween Party that i've invested a $150.00 worth of liquor. I've also bought 2 cases of beer from my store. I've been thinking about inviting my store manager to my house for some fun. Oh and even if company policy states that you can't bash them publicy you can. There was an article I posted a few weeks ago about a paramedic whom bashed her supervisor on facebook and got fired over it. She shot back with a lawsuit and won citing that facebook is free speech and falls under labor laws.

Good idea about the facebook thing. Even if you have your security tweaked up to the max, all it takes is for even one of your fb friends to have a potential enemy on their page, seeing your posts.
Alot of people stomp and shout about First Ammendment rights and the illegality of being fired over what they say on social networks----and they're right----but in reality, if you get caught bad mouthing your employer they can, and likely will, fire you. That's why I recommend just using common sense when on these sites.
I know a guy who was on a hate site for his company. Idiot posted his real name AND PICTURE......Guess where he spends most his time now? The unemployment office! This was over a year ago, and he STILL is bitching at the 'unfairness' and 'Gestapo tactics' of it all.
@ Cutter: You're right about the laws. I've read about the various law suits. Trouble is, management is aware of them too----------so that's why they just fire you for something...else. And how do you prove a connection? "Your Honor, my client terminated the plaintiff NOT because he was allegedly on facebook, but merely because his work had become sub standard." BANG. Case dismissed.
Until it maybe hits another civil court, and the employer seeks compensation for wrongful fees incurred by their legal department. Which yes, they can do (you can sue for literally anything in this country)......they probably won't get an award, but the original plaintiff will cough up several hundred dollars to get free of it. We could all go on indefinitely about this, but I still say
Just don't bash your employer on line. --------At least, not so's they can PROVE it.
i got a FB acct but i personally dont use it much. I know a lot of my fellow employees troll that site like it was cotton candy. One kid even called out one evening then posted photos of him going to homecoming. He got caught, yelled at for 5 minutes and is still working. Look - I know my son much rather do things he know I do not want him to do and hear my wrath for a couple minutes knowing that the fun he had doing that crap far outweight the yelling he will get on the back end.
As far as nosey employees -- thats everywhere. Kroger employees have developed very large ears to listen in on juicey gossip

Nosiness runs in the blood of human beings. We're social creatures. I don't usually get involved unless it's a situation where someone's going to be in trouble. Then I try to give a little warning to that person. For example, the GM (!) approached me about my department, asking if there was anything she needed to know was going on. Honestly, I was completely baffled. Our department is pretty much the least trouble as far as employees goes. Nonetheless, she said she'd heard from "reliable" sources that the lead baker and the back-up dept head were plotting against the dept. head. Total BS, and I told her I couldn't believe any such thing was happening. She dismissed me, saying they probably wouldn't let me in on it since i "talk to her". Don't get me wrong, I bring important issues to her attention, but I'm no suck-up brown-noser. And I get along very well with my co-workers, and I don't think they'd keep me out of a round robin. Anyway, I warned my back-up and lead baker that she was on the war path so they'd have time to get angry, then cool down before heading upstairs to talk. Better to have a cool head when heading into situations like that.
But yeah, gossip ahoy in my store. Break room is full of it, even the departments seem to have ongoing feuds. And a lot of cattiness too. But really, that's life. Gotta make the day interesting somehow. And the best thing to do if you hear damaging rumors is to shut it down right there. "That's not true and I think _____ wouldn't appreciate you spreading that around" or "_____ is on their phone? Cool, just make sure they're keeping an eye out for customers/management". I think in my department there's sort of an unspoken code that we just keep an eye out for each other as far as stuff like that goes. We're all going to have a moment when we need to text/call someone real quick and it's unnecessary to take a whole break because of that. So whatever.
