had to sit in a customer first meeting today and the jist was Kroger wants to know the employee better. REALLY?? Want to know what it is like to be a paycheck away from homeless.
Bin thu a lot of these classes before and it does seem that Kroger is trying something to make the work place better in some ways. Not always seems to be what everyone wants but at least tere is an attempt to try something more than nothing.
Got a better idea here. lets all employ the Wal-Mart methods and just all be like them.
I have an idea. Get rid of all the labor management systems such as ELMS, Key Retailing, and 1+1 Queuing, and just focus good ole' fashioned customer satisfaction. When Kroger focused more on the customer, everyone was happier.
Never been to a Kroger meeting that evertold me anything that I didn't already know outside of what ever training I had when I first started. Me and the Head of our delli had to sit through a meeting on how to unload perishable trucks and how to work them to the shelves. But for either one of us to go to the meeting and watch a video on the subject, we had to stop doing what the video showed us how to do. I mean hell I've been there 8 years and the deli head had 35+ years. I think we know how to unload and work orders.

But now they want you to pull the pallets off backwards while standing on your head. it's obviously more effective that way.

ELMS is unnerving for new cashiers. I've been around more than a month now and ELMS was never explained to me. I didn't know how to check scores or anything until yesterday. Now I'm obsessed and paranoid I didn't reach 25 IPM yet.
I find Manager Special barcodes often don't scan, lots of products like granola bars have to be massaged to get the bar code to swipe because it's poorly placed on the wrapper, some grapes are in bags with a bar code that trips the scanner but it doesn't pick up the weight and there's no way to enter the weight correctly so it always has to be cleared and the PCU entered. I get a number of customers who have a budget limit and will put only one item up at a time and wait to see what it cost then I have to voice what they don't want.
I was taught strategies to game the system like let things pile up on the conveyor which I see causes customers to look at me funny wondering why I haven't stared their order, I've offered to help unload carts and been rebuffed, I've told been to close the cash drawer immediately then go back in to get change so the clock stops by my manager.
Can someone give me a quick explanation of quevision and 1+1 queueing? I'm not a front-ender, but I'm interested in knowing what it is.
They're different names for the same thing. Basically they're saying that a customer should only have to wait behind one other customer while waiting to check out. One customer being waited on + one customer waiting in line. There are heat sensors over the checklanes to determine when someone is waiting in line. If enough heat sensors go off, it send a signal to a main computer which computes how many checklanes need to opened at the present time and how many need to be open in the next 30 minutes. The results are displayed on a monitor for everyone to see. When there's more people in the checklanes it says to open more checklanes. When there's fewer people it says to open fewer checklanes. There's also a 5 minute time that activates whenever it's immediately calling for more checklanes to be opened. If they're not opened within that time it sends a message to the main office and the store gets put on the bad list.
