If you are unhappy with your job then you should quit and find something else. Most wont because you cant find anyone else to put up with your bad work ethic.

Actually, you need to find something else first, and then quit.

The big problem is that there are tons of terrible worthless jobs out there like working for Kroger, but that it's hard to find one that's significantly better.

There are many people whom are currently unhappy with their job, but going out and quitting to find something else wouldn't exactly be the brightest choice either. I'm particularly against the direction the company is trying to take in terms of the competition like walmart. They seem to want to be more "walmart" and less HEB. I stay on with the company in hopes that it'll change and if not i'll go with HEB. I've built up alot of trust with customers over the years who expect to see me in the shop and ask advice for dinner or to know whats on sale. I would rather not disappoint the customer.

Oh, of course! Why didn't I think of that!? Not like I have bills to pay or have to eat and who knows how long it'll take to find another job but you're right!

kroger is always wanting to improve relations with its workers but never actually listens. is that not a legitimate compliant?

I think there's TONS to complain about regarding Kroger. A lot of it comes from 'upstairs' with idiotic new programs to "save money" (CAP) but end up wasting time (which, really, is money). But even on the store level there are things that are dumb. When stuff breaks and it doesn't get fixed for months....that's a completely legitimate complaint. It doesn't mean I'm going to quit, but it sure makes working there harder. When you as a minion get yelled at for something your immediate supervisor is responsible for (say, over-ordering to the point that your freezer is JAM PACKED and DANGEROUS to work in), that's a legitimate complaint as well. Before Kroger, I had a terrible work ethic. I hated every job I ever had. I had like 10 jobs before I even started at Kroger and I'm only 25. However, since my store allows related people to work there, I got a job about a year after my partner and knowing that he is well-loved there, I felt it necessary to make a good impression. And it stuck. I'm a hard worker. I do my job and I do it well and I work overtime whenever needed, but I mostly get everything done ahead of schedule. So when I complain, it's not because I'm some poor-work-ethic fool. It's because **** gets stupid sometimes and I want to vent. And possibly get something changed. But I don't expect Kroger to listen to a little minion like myself. So complaints are to let off steam.

Also: verbal abuse from managers should never be tolerated. The more people let stuff like that slide, the worse it will get. STAND UP FOR YOURSELF!

You are absolutely right about that! Like all bullies, abusive managers will NOT just stop on their own, they have to be corrected. The trick is to do it intelligently and tactfully, but it can work~

I agree. I had a manager tell me that the bakery employees weren't being thorough in going through the freezer for product. She asked me if I agreed with that statement and I said no. If we don't get a product out that we actually do have in the freezer, it's because access to the freezer is limited by the product we DONT need. In addition to our wall shelves being full we normally have three L-carts and a rack of stuff stuck in there! You can't get in without pulling one L-cart out and even then you have to squeeze around. I set the record straight with her and she didn't get mad or anything.
I am constantly questioning my management, but not in a degrading or condescending way. I just want to know what they know. Did we get hours allotted for the new CAP system? No? Why not? How are we supposed to spend 45 minutes scanning the store when they're already on top of us to get stuff out earlier and earlier?
