I used to work in meat/seafood (now up in front end) as a seafood clerk. Around last christmas the deli had to borrow my meat slicer because theirs was broken. Now, I had a lot of regular customers who preferred me to slice their meats over the trained meat cutters (don't ask why, I don't know lol). So with that being said I had a lot of interesting stories for the month of December from not having my slicer.

One lady got angry at me because I said "Ma'am, I don't have my slicer with me, the Deli has my slicer. If you want your meat sliced, you can ask one of our meat cutters or ask the Deli people to help you." My manager had instructed me to tell that to all of my customers who ask for sliced meat. She got angry and cursed at me saying "This place is so f***ing unprofessional and you are a worthless worker! Where is your manager??" So I grabbed my meat manager and let him deal with the customer. Apparently the lady thought I was lazy and refused her service because I didn't have my own meat slicer to use. I was dumbstruck for the rest of the day.

About two months ago I got moved to the Front End as a bagger.

I had this lady a couple weeks ago, who used her own reusable bags. Okay, tedious for me, but no big deal. Another bagger decided to help me out, since no other lanes were open and this lady had a really big order. I proceeded to bag her items the way I normally would, cans together, produce together, meat together, etc. I asked her if she wanted her eggs and bread in their own plastic bags, so as to not risk them getting smashed by anything. She immediately screamed at us, lecturing us on how bad plastic is and that we're rude and worthless workers who are inconsiderate to customers. At this point the other CC and I were pissed at this lady. The other CC then, very sarcastically says, "Oh thank you, Thank you for letting us know how we are doing. Please, DO come back, we just would LOVE to have your business at this store." The lady was speechless and just left. Probably my most favorite angry customer I have ever gotten. Lmao XD

It's not really a big deal, but it just bothers me when people will ask where something is when all of the aisles are labeled above. It's just silly when you have to look at the signs for them and then tell them what aisle. If you are stocking cough syrup they don't ask questions about medicine, it's something totally irellevant. ("Where is canned fruit?") I''ll memorize the major aisles, but it's not like every employee knows what's on all 40+ aisles we have (they are numbered by the half aisle) when we don't even work in grocery.

People think if you work there that you MUST have the store memorize and know where everything is! With all the product that goes in and out of the store plus seasonal items your lucky if you remember where certain things are. Some times you have to ask a fellow worker or just tell them ( if they are asking about meat/chicken) let me take you over to that dept and find someone who can answer your question.

Yes working at Kroger is DEFINITELY a psychology project!
