Next wave of key Retail

I am not sure if this is true. Maybe some of you have heard this.  I was told the next wave (6 here in the Central Division)  more department heads would be working the overnight/ third shift. I thought this sounds odd, has anyone else heard this.

I don't understand why the deli/bakery would. Our deli closes at 9pm and I heard they were moving away from overnight bakers, not that my dept head even knows how to bake the stuff we sell. I know more in my department than he does...for better or worse.

We've been scheduling day crew members to be working late shifts at least once per week, for some reason.

They've always done that here since I've been working in the bakery. Our department head works one 1-9 shift every week. The rest of her days are usually 8-4.

Our grocery head works the nights shift. The assistant works evenings.

Well, closing is one thing. Going overnight is another. There's nothing to do overnight. We don't get trucks, there wouldn't be any customers, and again, he doesn't know how to bake the stuff. Does anyone else's deli/bakery dept head have the skills to do the job of those below him/her?

I didn't hear about this one. Although I did hear that key retailing is going to bring huge changes this year and it is going to be really uncomfortable to a lot of people. These were words from my store manager.

Yea, I have to close one night a week, too. all the dept. heads and their Q.A.'s have to close one night a week, but I think what they are talking about is third shift. We dont even have a third shift baker anymore. Or a third shift frozen dept. head. The only ppl in our store who is on thirds right now is grocery. But a friend of mine at another store said her dept. heads are on thirds.

The dept. head should have been trained to do everything . I know how to do everything in the deli and bakery. I dont remember all the ins and outs of baking breads cause all the diff. times and crap and the not doing it everyday, but I was taught, and in a pinch I could get by. As should he, if he were taught right. no

I'm sure in a pinch he could figure most things out, but I know that when he comes to help me out if I get behind at all, he's mostly just asking questions. I don't mind answering, but I know it makes him feel unhelpful.

would be nice for me but then, being in the meat department and my store it would fail.

Have no cutter or market assistant. I set cases and get everything done before 8 am. No other cutting or anyone with a cleu as to what to do. I see the train wreck comming round the mountain now.

My bakery manager can do the bakes, she just doesn't have to unless one of the bakers is on vacation.

We never have a 3rd shift baker, our bakers work 5-1's.

But yea overnights wouldn't work for us either because our trucks come in around 5pm-7pm usually so whoevers there in the evenings puts it away.
