Why can't our store buy a couple of those "cart pusher" vehicles like the ones that meijer uses? That would make our job 10X easier, especially during the winter when we can get up to a foot of snow.

Ask your service director or store head manager. They will give you and answer. They might even invest in one.

Little by little, they're getting away from using the cart pushers. For one, they're only used by stores that make "x" amount of profit. And two, they're always in need of repair because those that use them aren't careful and don't take care of them like needed. Plus, the ones Kroger gets aren't as reliable as the ones that other companies purchase. The company isn't going to spend that much money on something that doesn't turn a profit for them. It's all about the money.

Don't you have to be 18 to run those?  Most of our courtesy clerks are too young.

Overseas and other retailers in the U.S., don't have a problem with carts. It's just like the airports. Want or need a cart? Put a quarter in the machine and get you one. When you return it, you'll get your quarter back. Cart wranglers won't have many to retrieve from the parking lot. The money they receive in the machine reduces cart damage and vehicle damage. Also, it pays for new wheels or upkeep. Some stores use the money to collect for Charities.

I hate putting money in a cart to use it when I spend money in your store.

There's a store called Aldi's in my area (and probably elsewhere, too) where they have a cart return thing like that. I don't see how they get that much money from it. If I ever shopped there, I would totally just return all the carts and keep the money for myself, haha. It wouldn't amount to much, but it could buy a gallon of gas on a good day, and that's rad.

That has happened! if you turn your back on your cart, kids will unload it onto the floor to return the cart to get the quarter for the bubblegum machines in the lobby. But overall, the cart machine works!

Aldi is an amazing company.  i applied to be a manager there years ago (didnt get the job and now i cut fricken' cold cuts for kroger - oh the humanity!)  they taken the 'no frills' concept to a totally different level.  their cart corral, no bags, bag your own stuff, only 2 or 3 employees there, skids of food, simplicity.  Great concept. it works for them. but never would for kroger.  nor would we want it to.

I have a friend who became an Aldi manager a coupla years ago----she says it's the worst career decision she ever made. Works 6--7 day 50-60-plus hour weeks, salaried....and more often than not has only one other employee in the store with her.

NO THANKS.

Aldi is an awesome store to shop in, but I don't think i'd want to work there.

I go there every week because the stuff is much cheaper than either Kroger or Walmart. Yes, you bag your own stuff but that isn't hard at all. You can buy your own bags, reuse your own, or just take a couple boxes and pack everything in. You get your quarter back after you put the cart back so you aren't losing any money either.

This is true. And besides, most Krogers don't have a cart garage or doors set up for this thing like Walmart and Target do. It'd take so long to break up the carts at the end that any time saved would just disappear.
