Part timers to go to under 30 hours per week with re-election of Obama because of A

Now that the Affordable Health Care Act will not be repealed, get ready for some great changes to our health care. Any one look to see on any recent contracts anything about the Union and Kroger being able to change our health care benefits. Here is what it says in our contract for Local 400 Richmond Hampton Roads.

"Health Care Reform: The Employer and Union agree to meet and discuss, at the request of either party, the effects of National Health Care Reform legislation and attendant federal reulations on this Health and Welfare article and to make any modifications and only such modifications that the Employer and the union joinly agree are necessary."

As you can see we are about to get screwed. Since this is not an issue that it looks like we get to have a say about. The union, I.E. the presidents get to decide what happens. Watch for the Unions to start up their own Health insurance companies. In right to work states look to have to join union to get these benefits, other wise you can deal with insurance and associated expenses on your own in Government run exchanges. Yes it is going to be a fun four years of jumping through more government hoops and fun activity at work.

Everyone has been complaining about Kroger not allowing any one to go full time, this article from the Washington Times should explain why they are keeping everyone down to part time. Kroger is down on the list but it is there. If you are full time expect lots of pressure from above to get you out the door as Kroger will now try to go to part timers only.

To me, this is just an excuse to save money then blame it on the President. Take a look at how much money the CEO's made last year. Then tell me they can't afford to give them employee's benefits.

What I find interesting is how Corporate America, as heralded by Darden Foods, inc., knew months ago what was coming------and started cutting hours away from its employees in advance.

I understand that the two greatest factions that put that flap-jack eared bastard BACK in office were the Latinos (they want immigration reform).....and young white twenty-somethings. Well, ok: you wanted him, we got him! I'll check back with ya in a year or so and see how your bank account is doing.
We seriously ain't seen NUTHIN' yet~~

Alot of the part timers at my store already get the health care so no penalty. If they start cutting theirs, kroger is just being cheap and using obama as an excuse.

that's a load of BULL. Most of the Part-timers at my store were already getting only 10 hour weeks BEFORE the election. no one is getting 40 that I know of....keeping everyone at 38 or less. look at the past schedules. Hours were cut weeks ago!

Many retailers are putting the burden of Healthcare on the State. Their attitude is, So what if they don't get enough hours to pay for their Healthcare.....let them apply for Medicaid".

Very few PT employees get over 30 hours as is, and when they do it's not all that often. It's obvious how this will effect PTers, but as a full timer what does this mean? I'm at least hoping it means there are more PTers to account for the shortage of hours given to each.

What I don't get is all the people blaming Obama for everything, and yet it's not like anything ever really changes anyway, when you have a Republican majority House blocking everything. If Obama said that the sky is blue, the Republicans, lead by good ol Boehner himself, would say it's green just to argue.

Okay missing the point. There will be no one that can go full time any more. They will all be part time.

You also need to understand that if you are currently full time, Kroger may try to get rid of you to save money.

As for them currently having health care, even on part time. They may be kicked out of our (Kroger)  health care to fend for themselves. Would you want to go through all the paper work that is about to hit every American. We all will need to file forms with the IRS to show we have a health care plan that meets the law.

If you are young and can only find a part time job with no room to advance to full time what are your prospects. You are going to have to pay into a system that you most likely will not use very much.

Whether you like it or not we are all going to pay for this new system. NOTHING IS FREE!!

One other thing, the law allows for interstate health insurance companies. This is not a bad thing, unless you work for a company in an at will state. The Unions are most likely going to take over the health insurance for UFCW(they already have our prescriptions). For any one who wants insurance through Kroger we will have to go through the Union. Not a union member join or go it alone. That means no more paycheck deduction for insurance, you get to write the check and deal with all the paperwork.

Kroger hasn't been letting anyone go to full time (at least very rarely) anyway? Remember the whole 70/30 policy?

All I'm saying is that "Obamacare" has become the perfect excuse for the greedy CEO's to have an "explanation" for their actions. Blame it on the pres, when you should be blaming it on the company itself.

After much re consideration, I have to agree with that. It's not like Corporate America had any way of knowing who was gonna win the presidency, but it's been proven that their greed is absolutely boundless.

 Absolutely correct.

I also think that we could've seen this coming and dealt with it better, (not that I have a better idea) because of course this was going to happen with that sort of plan. Loopholes need to be closed before things go all the way through.

There are a LOT of companies that have that kind of business model. Kroger isn't the first, and certainly won't be the last. Obamacare is an excuse to forge ahead with this for those companies. This has nothing to do with who was elected president...I would be confident in saying that this would have happened regardless of the election outcome. The excuse, er..."reasoning" would have been different.

Get a grip and quit the name-calling. I'd bet you all have friends and loved ones who voted for our President, even if you don't know..so watch who you're calling names.
