Okay I've been working at kroger for about a month now and I havnt gotten a chance to join the union yet my position there is a cashier so I went into work today (11/19/12 at 2:45) as soon as I came in today my boss christian told me to go see my other boss tersa at custermus service and she was on the phone dealing with someone else then when she got off the phone she paiged mr. Long up front so she went off to the side to talk to him for about. 45 seconds then they told me to come with them so they got me in the back office and waited for everyone to clearout and mr. Long said that it has been brought to our attention that you have been using your kroger card for people and I said yes sir so he said. Why was I scanning my kroger card fo people ( I did it for about 30 people) then I said because they asked me too and he said well we are going to have to let you go and I said okayand he said any questions then I asked him for a copy of my social and birt certificat and he said he will give it to me when I bring my uniforms back and get my paycheck. So my question for yall today did they follow the right procedures in firing me I'm only 17 and never been in trouble at work before can they hold my social and birth certifacat from me like that and my paycheck til thursday (it was sunday when they fired me) can I do anything about this they never gave me a warning wrote me up or anything is there some legal measure that can be taking and does anybody know an lawyer that would handle this case and they showed me no evidence proving that it was wroung for me to do they showed me nothing at all just fired me that yall very much long responses would be great!
also about a month you've worked there? chances are you're still in probationary status and so they wouldn't even technically need a reason to let you go (if you're in a right to work state that is)
basically the only reasons you can't be fired are due to gender, race, age, military status, or religious beliefs.
if they have your original birth certiciate and ss card? you shouldn't have given them originals, only copies. paycheck, even if you're terminated should still follow the same time structure as usual.
can you do anything about this? probably not, it sounds to me like everything here was pretty much by the book, if they never told you you couldn't scan kroger card for others, well, that sucks, but i'm willing to bet there was something written about it someplace in your new hire paperwork or somewhere you should have seen
