I have been with Kroger for several years and I have never seen what I seen the other day at my store, I'm a concerned employee.I over heard our store manager talking to our grocery manager about backstock and CAO and she was trying to explain to him that she was doing the best she could and tell him she did not want to fail as a grocery manager, his respone to her was you have failed as a grocery manager, not only have you failed as a grocery manager, but your inventory is the worst in the district.Maybe I should not have been listening, but it was wrong the way he was talking to her. I have never heard of a store director critize an employee the way he did her. As a concerned employee, I just want to say that she is not the only manager that works in this store and there ARE others above her who could help her out. All along I thought Kroger was a family place, but the way he spoke to her makes me question our work invironment.
Never trust any manager. We are not family, we are not a team. This company is headed for failure. This seems to be the goal they want to achieve. You cant succeed. They thrive on failure. It is a big ego boost for alot of managers...its all they got. It is holiday season and they run the stores on as little hours as possible....expect you to be super human and do the work of 3 people and bitch when your wore down ass cant keep up with all the stupid ass questions and all the bitchin you get dumped upon you from customers. I know its bad for Kroger employees everywhere but Southern Illinois employees really have to endure some sick ****ed up bull****. There is not one damn thing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and there sure as HELL not anything to be "EXCITED" about......**** ALL THIS BULL****.
my store manager is good. one co manager does stuff but he clearly hates his job and seems antisocial.
the other is useless and other people are starting to notice. if you need something forget it. he disappears or refuses, telling you to get the store manager. i'm not sure why he's there.
I've been involved in retail for a long time, and I've seen the attitude among management gradually turn ugly and bullying. I don't know if the industry is training them to be that way, or if they are selected because they already were that way, or a combination. Even tho I'm sometimes pushed to be much harder than I am willing to be, so far I've lucked out and been able to remain my self.
We lost a very good colleague last year; in his nine years at my store, he'd never written any body up. I don't know if that had anything to do with how, one day he couldn't do anything right-----and the next thing we all knew, he was demoted.
I have a dept. Head who came from Kroger, and he told me some horror stories about some of the treatment he received there.
that says it in a nut shell. I think our managers are trained to talk down to us. And the favoritism in this company out weighs the true talent or abilities.

I really think it is the particular personality of the manager on how they treat employees. We have 2 that are great, they address problems but not in a condescending way. The third, he talks to people like they're dumb. Best thing about him is, just parrot his downtalking right back to him and he won't say a word about it. He's an assshole with no backbone.

And yet you have a job, and you did get up this morning...I'll admit it's not much, but you've got to have something to go on...What else is there?
Don't get on managers bad side and you should be good.
That's true...I've worked a long time in retail. You get some good managers and some bad managers, but I've always found a way to deal with the bad ones. I would bet that if you knew the background and/or personal life of every bad manager you've ever come across, you'd find that there are a lot of other issues that they are dealing with, that would at least explain, though not condone, any of their actions. Remember, this is only hearsay now, but I've heard over the years of managers (not just Kroger managers, but other chains, too...) having drug and/or alcohol problems, domestic problems, maybe anger issues...They probably would never tell you any of this, and I can't say any of this for sure, but if you do the math right, you can sometimes guess these things without anyone mentioning a word...But, it takes experience. The longer you work in retail, the more you see, the more aware you are. So if I look at these types of managers with a different mindset of trying to understand them, their sting isn't so powerful. That being said, though, for the most part, I've dealt with some very excellent managers, who were terribly missed when they left the store. The good ones are out there. Of course, if one does happen to have a good union steward, it doesn't hurt to be on good terms with him or her either...In any case, it's something to think about...
