I've gotten three tips since I've been a bagger for two months. The tips are usually small 1-2 dollars a time. I only get tips for carrying out to cars. I don't report my tips or mention them to other employees in fear of getting in trouble. I don't see what the big deal is, I guess kroger doesn't want us getting free money for ACTUALLY doing our jobs.
If I was a bagger and got a tip, i wouldn't say anything to anyone, definitely not other employees. I don't know if it's allowed or not but you guys would deserve one since you are doing an extra service for them!
I am a bagger working my way through college in small town usa. I usually average between 30-40$ in tips every week on top of the 30 hours I work everyweek. When I first started I asked the manager if it was okay to take them and he said it was perfectly fine.
My employee handbook states that I may not solicit tips.
so·lic·it
/slisit/
Verb
Ask for or try to obtain (something) from someone.
Ask (someone) for something: "he solicited the critic's opinion".
So as long as I am not asking for a tip, it is good. Should I ever get in trouble for the behavior of accepting tips, the handbook will be my first line of defense. Also, if the customer offers you money, it is rude to turn it down in this case.
