New "name badge system." What?

So we get weekly newsletters, and for weeks they were touting a "new name badge system" that will make it harder for employees to lose their name badges, since there has been a lot of that going on lately.  We were all wondering what kind of system it would be and how could it prevent employees from losing their name badges.

Well the new system rolled around, and they handed out new name badges - the only difference is that our names on them are bigger and they told us, when they handed them to us "don't lose these because they're all you get." That's it?  That's the new system?  I can imagine some people purposely losing their name badge, since now they won't make new ones for us and some people don't like wearing them.  I don't know what we're supposed to do if we lose them. I don't lose mine often but I've lost a few in years past.

Grab some cardboard and write your name on it with marker.

I only have one name badge, I almost lost it once but it was in my car. Other than that i haven't heard any complaining about them... it can't cost that much to print up a new one so i don't even get that :/

Ask the service desk or management because in the service desk we keep them all up their and I was responsible to give them out t the whole store.

OK, a question: Are your name badges the same ones you swipe the clock with?

Yes? Then there's prob'ly an RFID chip put into the new ones, can be scanned from any source and be found anywhere in the store.

No? Then stop worrying about it. Like the above poster said, draw lipstick in scrawly letters that are barely comprehensible to a pre-schooler on a piece of retard card board.

what would be sweet is instead of punching our employee number in the time clock, put it on the badge and just swipe it through. I remember my first week I kept forgetting my number and there would be huge lines at the time clock.

That's why you write your number on the back of the cardboard badge.

Haven't worn one in two years. Night crew never wears them, we live to be comfortable and relaxed.

Why can we just embroidered your name on the shirts, that way you can not lose it

Cost savings

1) Because it makes it much harder to have a consistent, but store-specific uniform program. All stores in my district use the same uniform but there are at least 3 name badge variants. Instead of having to purchase several varieties of uniforms (at an increased cost per uniform) they just purchase large quantities of the same ones.

2) Inevitably, some employees would have to have their position added. Then they transfer depts or get promoted/demoted, etc. and they need new uniforms at additional cost to the company.

3) Every once in a while, corporate decides to issue new temporary or permanent badges, such as the ones for kroger's 125 year anniversary. If they wanted to do this with embroidered shirts, the cost would be on the order of several thousand dollars for a larger store as opposed to maybe $100 for new badges for the same store.

We finally got the new badges a few months ago, with our names on in bigger print. The department heads no longer have the black name tags, but instead have regular tags that just have their title below it. I haven't lost mine but the clip is taped on since the glue popped off on it in about a week.

Hot glue pretty much permanently attaches the clip to the badge fyi.

 lol

We had one kid that had his UEID written on back of his badge.  He still couldn't remember it after working there three years!  And, yes, I never saw him with a name badge.
