 People who aren't part of the union can still stand up for their rights. The union actually takes away your rights AND money.


 Do you honestly believe we would have our healthcare, vacations, personal days, predictable raises, and representation without the union? HELL NO.

Also, When you get fired over something avoidable you'll be the one out of a job. No one is 100% unfailable.

I want to go union working at 412 city market. We have no union big mistake, we do everything for the same amount of money and do not recive nothing in return because we are not union workers nor do we have the same rights as employee's.  We all work every department and have to do our work in the same amount of time. NO OVER TIME!!!

If this goes well my store will be unionized by 1/1/2013. DON'T LET THEM LIE TO YOU IF YOU WORK GET A UNION JOB NO IF'S AND'S OR BUT'S

It's your future make it better.

 You keep saying that like it's a HUGE deduction on your actual paycheck. you work 1.5 hours to pay your union dues per week. That's less than 3% of your total yearly paycheck. You pay 5 times more in taxes. You give Kroger back at least 10 times, per week, just for lunchs.

<$10 a week isn't killing you. When they fire you for something you didn't do, something you did because no one trained you, or because your new manager just didn't like you that day don't come crying to me because you're nothing but a selfish prick who thinks $10 a week was TOO MUCH for a safety net.

Safety net for less than minimum wage?

I should be able to join the union soon.  I don't know if I want to.

I've been told by older employees it's useless and a black hole that gives nothing back.  

I get enough hours to pay rent but it's not on the schedule.  I depend on getting called in.  

If I just go by the scheduled hours, there's no chance and I don't need another expense that won't do anything but take my money.

The union is a democratic organization. If you don't like how things are going, make an effort to get involved. I used to be just like every other bing bong that whines about who wasn't doing anything for me. Then I decided it was time to get my hands dirty. It turns out that there are some sucky people in the union, but that there are also officers and reps that really care about doing a good job for you. I've had several of them take me out to lunch and listen to what I had to say. Go figure!

Giving up paying dues is giving up your right to be involved. It's giving up your right to vote on contracts, and it's weakening your bargaining power. Having a strong union is how people earn better pay and benefits. It's how you end up with affordable insurance. I don't know about everyone else's experience, but in my local, a single person only pays $5 for insurance. Find me any other retail worker that is only paying $5 a week for insurance! We're starting to see things like that erode though. New hires don't get as much PTO and they wait longer for holiday pay and have to work more hours for insurance. And the weaker the unions who negotiate this stuff get, from having free riders and people that are downright antagonistic, the worse it will be for everyone. So you know what? If that's the alternative, and I'm not going to quit and work somewhere else? Then SOLIDARITY FOREVER is all I have to say.

Gotta agree strongly with the above post. It's like presidential voting: If you don't vote, don't bitch. I don't like most of what I've read about the UFCW on here, but bottom line, I have to agree with those that say: GET INVOLVED.

If you got a free check from someone who never acted like they cared how you got it, wouldn't you grow lazy, too? Make the union care.

GET INVOLVED.
