At our store we have a bunch of signs in the milk department that say something along the lines of "The dates don't lie! Kroger brand milk really stays fresher longer!" How can that be true? What are they putting in the milk that keeps it fresher longer?
Has nothing to do with the milk itself. Kroger has its own dairies and they have streamlined delivery so that milk arrives at the stores earlier in its lifespan so that the milk on the shelf has expiration dates farther out.

This. Crikey. You have an extra week or longer past the expiry date.
Milk will stay fresh longer if it stays cold. Kroger has introduced new cooling systems to the dairy manufacture process. It super cools milk after it is pasturized. They are also turning down the truck trailer temps and making sure good cold chain management is followed.
