Baggers have to lie to customers tho.

This is a lie.

Example of what you could say:

"I don't know sir, I'm sorry."

No one's forcing you to put yourself before the customer and be a bad person. That's your decision. Don't place blame on management either for you doing the wrong thing. They don't force you to lie.

I've tried that before. It usually ends up with a cranky customer whining "well can't you FIND OUT?"  And they get pissed when the answer says "no." Too much hassle.

Ah, I see. It's only customer first when it's convenient for you.

And it's never convenient for me. I'm glad we're in agreement. biggrin

Quit avoiding my question. How often do you lie?

I never lie. I'm an honest man and I follow the ninth commandment. To my knowledge I've never knowingly told a lie.

Bull****. You've just told a lie. There isn't nobody on this planet who has never lied. I can tell somebody has never taken a psychology class or has read anything on the Human Psyche.

Oh please. It's defining the different types of lies, hardly anything to get your panties in a wad about using wikipedia as a reference. If you've never told a lie, then that's a lie. If you've never even told a small lie to protect someones feelings then I bet not many people like you and find you to be quite the @sshole. Which wouldn't be a huge shocker given your actions here.

Wikipedia is reliable in terms of certain categories out there. Its not referring to special interest groups, persons, or any organization for that matter. The said article is only a detail description of what is implied as a lie. Humans are programmed to lie when convient even if it a little lie like telling a woman she doesn't look fat in a dress like the person says above. I assure you that i'm not your typical "Kroger Employee" either.

This isn't a peer reviewed scientific journal.  It's an unofficial Kroger employee forum.  Wikipedia is good enough.

Tracking down items for customers is a pain.  As often as not, the customer flat out wastes my time since they run off while I'm working on it.

And then, we are almost always sold out, or it's a vendor item.

Exactly.

Webster is an acceptable source, wikipedia is not. We should all be professional here.

In our store, all the stocking is done at night, so if it's not on the shelf, then we are out of the product until the next day. I have never seen instances where we were able to find something in the back room that was not on the shelf. If a customer asks me, I explain the situation, and then offer to page someone to help if they'd like.

I wish everyone were more like you. God bless you.

Hopefully, some of these lying atheists will stop being selfish and follow your example.

No, it's not in my eyes, but the OP of that statement intended it to be an insult, so ask them.

I hardly get very offended by anybody, whether their statements are true or not. :) I've been called an atheist by my own family because I believe in separation of church and state. Ob-la-di! biggrin

I contemplated "locking" the thread but feel that there is a little merit in it so I can't.  Hope that soon it will burn out....

Just to get a little on topic here. Chances are that item is NEVER EVER in the back unless its perhaps a produce item. We come in at night, we stock the shelf till its full. If its empty it's a hole, there isn't any in the back. 100% of pallets are stocked right off the truck, backstock sits on a cart. You aren't lying to a customer if you say you're all out. Unless your one of those stores that have a horrible backroom full of stuff and pallets of dead/backstock then you can be 100% certain if it ain't on the shelve it's waiting to be ordered.

I always find dealing with exiting ****omers to be of the utmost importance! In the imortal words of ICP, always tell the ****omers, upon their leaving, 'don't let the door hit ya, where the good lord split ya!' It always puts a smile on their face as well as yours, for the rest of the day.

It's suppose to be customer first, not you you you.

oh you have fallen into the brainwashing of "customer no matter what". how much do you make? like 9 dollars an hour? i lie to customers on a daily basis i dont care.

I'm a front end employee. On occasion when I'm assigned to clean the bathrooms, I do run into customers that ask if we have more stock of a particular product in the back room. Is it worth rummaging through all of our stuff looking for whatever they want? I usually tell them that we're out or I refer them to the person who actually stocks the stuff. I just don't think it's worth going through that much trouble looking for something in an area that I'm not familiar with.

It doesn't matter if you think it's worth it. Point is they asked. That means unless you are on a break, immediate clean up, lunch, or off the clock, you stop whatever you are doing and help the customer. They pay your paycheck. Without them you'd be out of a job. So yes, it IS worth it ..,

Quoted for truth. Front end associates should be assisting customers just as much as the other departments are expected to. If a customer comes to the front end and asks if there is any more of something in stock, then it's not hard to pick up a phone and page the appropriate department to find out. If a customer comes to you and you don't know the answer, then you call a supervisor, a co-manager or heck the store manager until you get the answer to the question the customer has. You're supposed to do whatever possible to ensure the customer leaves the store happy. Obviously, that's not always possible if the store is truly out of something or an issue can't be resolved for whatever reason, but every employee is supposed to put forth the best effort possible. It's not always easy, especially if you've got a rude customer, but an effort is still expected to be made.
