Under staffing!

Sorry but I need to vent a little bit!  I go into work in the deli Thursday morning and just before I go to the time clock to clock in, the power goes out.  Stays out for over an hour so  we have to cover the cases and tell the stupid customers that we can't slice them anything because our slicers have no power at all.  Just the registers and some lights had power so we of course stayed open.  Oh and even though we covered our cases, customers just ripped the tape and grabbed stuff.

Well then it gets interesting.  The outage put us about a hour and a half behind getting the steamtable ready and hot sandwiches out.  The opener came in at 7 and me at 8:30, noone else was scheduled until 2:30 and 5 o clock not counting our chicken person.  Well 2:30 persons husband called to say she was sick and  on the way to the hospital and wouldn't be in.  Management wouldn't allow anyone to be called in because "No Overtime!"

So going a vast majority of the day with two people and the phone ringing off the hook and customers on the counter and steamtable the opener went to lunch.  While by myself one of our co-managers comes down to say we need to refresh the steamtable because it looks like crap.  Nevermind the fact that we were shorthanded.  I pissed her off when I told her we've been crazy busy and we haven't had time to refresh the steamtable because of our lack of help.  She got pissed at my answer and walked off.  I'm waiting to see if I get into trouble for that remark.  LOL!

Luckily we were able to get one of the girls from the bakery to come over and help because we had a few party trays due in the evening, but she could only stay until 7 and shortly after 4 the 5 o clock guy said he would be late if there at all because he was at the doctor himself.  Don't know if he ever showed up.  Still no overtime so I wasn't asked to stay over.

This year has been the worse year I've ever had at Kroger.  Management has gotten to the point they don't care how overworked we are, just make them more money.

Well rant over, have a good night, and bummer the world didn't end!  Damn Mayans!
