Happy Holidays NOT!

They ain't so happy, these holiday times. I'm almost three months in at my job, and I am left alone in evenings (well, everyone else leaves 2 or 3:30pm - rare some stay past, but I rearly seem them on the floor, dept. heads, etc.), on the holidays, to handle all of dairy. I'n not so young, and I'm not so tall.. milk in the back cooler is rarely setup (it's not fun trying to pull it nearer to the dairy case with stuff all in front of it to move as well etc.), eggs are heavier than I though, butter & cream cheese keep running out, don't even attempt to worry about eggnog, gone the minute I put it up, can't get to the cheese to stock it, people always there.. Oh, and look.. here comes a manager trainee, would I mind putting this and that up? Oh and don't forgrt to fill the milk case and face out everything before you leave, etc.

So, how is it in you dept.? Do you have any help? Do you work a full 40 and you are still part time? Do some people you work with do little to nothing, and nothing is said, whilst you do yours and their jobs all while more is added to your task list?

Just wondering. And is this what my life at Kroger will be like as long as I work there? evileye

Thats how it always was in dairy when I worked in that dept. Luckily, I'm not in that dept anymore. I work between 36-40 hrs per week and am full time. We have plenty of help in our dept, but we will see what happens when the first of the year hits and we are AARP preferred and getting a TON more customers in for their prescriptions.

Yep, That's how it is. I'm the only person after 3:30 most days and they want me to do everything in the store. It's very annoying.

I don't get it... but least it's Xmas day, and for now it's closed. THANK YOU GOD (Christian or otherwise, I'm not picky)! So come next week I will be getting 40 hrs, that 3 weeks in a row! Why an I listed as PT then?? Oh, and I have someone now working the dept. who has been with the company 12 yrs.. This person doesn't do ****! Wonders the floor most days. After the wondering, comes by to tell me, "going on break".. well, I THOUGHT YOU WERE ON BREAK THE LAST FEW HOURS! WTF?! I AM BUSTING MY ASS TO THE POINT OF ALMOST PASSING OUT.. AND MOREIS ASKED OF ME STILL! Let me also say, this person has pulled out a weapon and threatened people in her former area of work, this perso nhas caused dept. heads to step down, gotten new hires fired.. Please explain to me why Kroger mangers have now balls when this sort of bull**** is going on?

There's a huge snowstorm here today and I had to call in as the roads where I live are drifted shut.

I just realized, does this mean I won't get my holiday pay? :(

That was my concern too. We are under a blizzard warning and my manager called me and told me not to come in. I told her I was concerned about holiday pay and I will absolutely come in as I'm only 10 miles away and have 4x4. She said she was going to talk to HR and all should be fine. I'd give HR a call. Do you have alert snow levels in your county? I don't have them in mine so those who called in couldn't say we were under a level 2 or 3 and couldn't come in. Good luck, I hope you get your holiday pay.

Yea, actually it's currently a Level 2 in my county but will soon be a level 3 (at 3:00) which means no one's even supposed to be out on the road. I actually don't even work until 5 but it's getting worse and worse so I've already called in. I forgot to mention holiday pay to my manager since I didn't even think of this until just now.

You expect them to pay for work not performed?  And "holiday pay" at that?  Seriously?  I'm not impressed.

Holiday pay is bogus.

How many times have you turned it down, or given it to your manager as a bonus?
Shove it, you troll.

I've been a dairy manager for about 4 1/2 years and I love it! Sucks that they're cutting our hours but it's still the best job in the store! Have a happy new year!

This kind of talk is simply uncalled for.

You should sit in the corner and reflect upon your actions.

Yes. Because had we been open and had I been scheduled I would have been there. They offer holiday pay. I want to be paid for it.

Looks like talking to my dept. head, guy that makes the schedule, etc., did no good. I told him I needed a break from a so many hrs, they would not put the schedule out until today (should have known that meant bad news), I see where it was to be 28 hrs but all that's been marked through with sloppy penmanship, really can't read all the times, gonna have to ask... But it still looks like the **** shift times, if I'm reading it right.. Anyway, at the end it is written 40 hrs, again! That will be 3 weeks of it (only had one pt hrs weeks since I been there)! I think it's time for a 2 weeks notice. Walmart was run far better! If this is unuon ****.. I hope Walmart stays un-unionized (I was told cause of the bitch that came into our dept raising a fuss with the union, that was the reason I can get no early shifts or a break in hrs). But I was also told the reason I was getting so many hrs (via the rumoe mill) was cause I was 'such a good worker'. Really? Are they that hard up for anyone who will actucally work? Ok, I have noticed, very few truly work, seems the few that do are ridden like a race horse, and get the most **** shifts and either way to many hrs are worked to death in short shift sprints.

Ah, the union. It's great though! They steal your money, then give you nothing in return. Not only that, apparently, according to some certain people, we should be forced to join the union and pay union dues to support people who don't even have our best intentions at heart. Ah, the union.

And btw, I'm not a Rebubilcan, and I see a use for unions in the right enviromet, and the right type of union, but retail ain't one of them, sorry to say (at least not as it is in Kroger, I don't see it as having any reall teeth for real important matters, just window dressing, and the 'hey, lets let them frack over each other.. haha', mentality). In my way of thinking, union should be there to fight for employees when it comes to matters of insurance, job safety, fair pay, and such. NOT so people can screw over others, just cause their lazy arses have been there a long time. Period! You do your damn job! WORK! Or gett the hell out the door! There are people of all ages, genders, and races who can, will, and want to work! Get out and give them a chance! I hope Kroger grows some balls one day.. but I doubt it. It will sink, just like the Titanic.
