I'm at work right now and it is a MAD HOUSE . Imagine 300 people all buying 200$ worth of food at once ! And the store closes at 5 (Its 4:32 Eastern time) and there's a still a mob load of customers in here with mobs more still coming in ...
At one of the stores a couple years ago the cops had to be called because people were still coming in the Out doors after the store was closed. Luckily, I did not have to work today, I swapped days with someone else and work NY Eve instead.
Yesterday it was busy... meat market ran $30,000 for the day. We had a small incident where a customer wanted to meet my market manager in the parking lot over a markdown. Apparently it was marked with the wrong product name and he was getting even cheaper. Welk he wanted an even greater discount and he told him he was getting an even better deal already...

we are breaking sales records right now and for some reason we don't seem to be hiring many people. therefore people are constantly pulled from grocery, floral, nutrition, drug/gm, frozen and other departments to pull carts off the lot, run registers and bag groceries every day. co-managers are on the registers all the time now. department heads are out gathering buggies along with the store manager at times. add this on top of all the pissed-off customers and crazy holiday requests we get and personally i count every day that i don't snap and wind up get fired somehow to be a miracle of sorts
I had one that was really pissed off because the cardboard wrapping around the gift card had gotten messed up after he had just laid all of his gift cards on the belt and the belt started eating them. I went and got him a new one, and he didn't even thank me or talk to me. I told him to have a VERY Merry Christmas.
