28 hours AGAIN!

On the bright side I did pick up 3 extra hours this week when it was noticed at the last minute that there was an hour between when I got there and the opener in the deli left for the day.  That would have left the chicken girl by herself.

Went to get my schedule this week and I only got 28 hours again!  Not too many people with less senority got more hours than me.  Most of the employees under me got 25 or less.  When I counted the names on our schedule the other day we had 106 people and they are still hiring!

at my store, we all got around 33 hrs for the week.  a lot of 6 or 7 hour days.  just a couple weeks back, they hired 3 new people!  i figured out that they are saving around $300 in payroll just in my department. we are currently looking into claiming partial shifts.

They are probably trying to save money on health insurance. A lot of businesses are cutting down their part-timers to below 30 hours because they do not have to offer them health insurance.

well today we had several of our employees clain other hours.  this is because our dumbass store manager decided to cut everyone's hours from 40 down to 33.  the department manager was in the dark as she said she submitted the schedule w/ us having 40.  so yea there were several claims made.  a couple weeks prior, they hired 3 new employees at $3.15 / hr. they got 27 hrs each since they are PT. I figured he saved about $300 in payroll just in our department.  then around 4 pm one of our employees came in and quit.  she is 75 years old and was told she was to learn the chicken area. totally ridiculously hillarious to think that we need to put a 3 and a half foot 85 pound lady in her mid 70's on opening chicken duties.  WTF is the store manager thinking?  well she decided to just resign and move to a mobile home in sunny Florida finally.  I'll admit she shoulda done this 4 years ago but hey its never too late.  but now that she is gone, the stupid idiot store manager will have to now give us all 40 hours again for the next week. so his plan lasted for 1 or 2 days and backfired up his ass.  what a fool.

3.15! Holy crap, I thought minimum wage was the lowest you could go unless the job included tips like waiting staff?

My prediction is and has been for a while, that when Obummer care kicks in, thyey will flood the stores with part time help that will average about 20 to 24 hours a week. When the Obummer care all kicks in, they have to cover all full time employees and families. They ( the Government ) will define full time as those that work 30 hours a week or 120 hours a month.

Not just Kroger but almost any Business will go to this.

not only that but everyone who's not "full time" somewhere will have to work 2 jobs or more in order to make it....

I know of a couple of our employees who have outside jobs with competitors. Because I understand the situation and have no problem with it, I be cool; say nothing to anyone. Bottom line is: People gotta eat. And if one job ain't cuttin it, what are you supposed to do? Go on welfare? Don't we have enough abuse of that now, by 'people' who don't even want to work?

And in any case, what's really the big deal of an hourly employee working for a competitor? What kind of damage is a Kroger over night stocker moon lighting at Walmart going to create-----give away the Colonel's Seven Secret Spices, or Tony the Tiger's Secret Recipe? Do a leveraged buy out through a Wally job application terminal? It's ridiculous!

I say: Do whatever you have to do to get by.

Same thing happened to us. I was getting 40 hours, but next week my hours went down to 28 :/ I heard it has something to do with the fiscal year or something like that. and they said at the end of february they will give us more hours again! we'll see.
