Hello all...
This is probably a really dumb question considering (and assuming) all of you actually got hired and are working at Kroger or have worked at Kroger.
I got hired at McDonald's early December because I was desperate and they have zero standards and don't need references or work history and I had never had a job before. They forgot they hired me and I had to go see what the deal was after a month. My first day was last Monday (5hours) and it took them until today to call me and tell me the next time to come in.
I was messing around and put in an application at Kroger not expecting to hear anything. Got a call a couple of days ago saying I got an interview!
Is it safe to say I probably got the job? Have you ever heard of anyone getting an interview at a place like this and then not getting the job if they were well-qualified and didn't completely freak anyone out at the interview? The thing is, I go back to McDonald's tomorrow and I'd love to be able to put in my two weeks then, but in the back of my mind I know that's a dumb idea since my Kroger interview isn't until the day after... I realize this could completely depend on location and individual managers and whatnot
This is more of a life question than a Kroger question, but what the heck do I do if I go to McDonald's tomorrow and find out they have me scheduled to work on Monday during my interview? Do I lie and say I have an orthodontist appointment? Do I quit then?
This was waaaay longer then I meant it to be....sorry....and I hate McDonald's anyway...it is miserable and the smell of McMuffins will haunt my dreams forever... I apologize if this shows up as one long paragraph. I tried to separate the paragraphs but I don't think it's going to show up like that. Have an awesome day)

Also, I don't plan on using Mc as a reference in the future since I will have worked for 5 whole hours during one day and the managers didn't even observe anything I did during that time anyway. Therefore, I'd be able to quit last minute without notice if need be, but it would weigh heavily on my conscience...
i would just go to McD's and work w/o saying a damn thing. Then go to the Kroger interview and see what happens. Then if Kroger does offer you a job, see what the pay will be. Go back to McD's and say that you have a better opportunity at a retail operation and are willing to stay if they increase your pay. if they say "hell no" then just quit. not a big deal.

they don't hire every one they decide to interview. you don't have to tell McD you're interviewing. quitting McD before getting an offer would be a mistake given your situation.

This. Don't give up your one job for an interview at Kroger. Past history in mind for my time with Kroger...I wouldn't waste the effort and concentrate on McDonald's. Might not be the best job in the world, but they're a bit more proffessional than Kroger
I used to do the hiring. Just because you get an interview doesn't mean you got the job. There were plenty of people I interviewed and ended up not hiring. Mostly due to the fact that they showed up for their interview dressed like they were going to a picnic, or didn't sit up straight in the chair, and don't even get me started on eye contact. If you don't make a good impression on your interviewer, you won't make a good impression on our customers. That is what I looked for.
I miss interviewing people. I loved the one's who chewed gum.
Those ones were fun. Along with those who didn't shut their phone off, and wore obnoxious amounts of perfume/cologne that lingered for hours (if not days) in my windowless office.
Going through the sex offender/criminal back ground check before you even call them in is fun too.....Before this, I seriously had no idea just how many dirt bags were out there. :(
and the ones that couldn't spell on the application. Not sure how many 30 second interviews I had
A lot of people who came in and filled apps out didn't even make it to my completed apps file. They filled it out, I threw it out. If you can't manage to throw on some decent clothes and look like you give a damn to fill out a piece of paper, then that is that. I also hired for sales positions, which is even harder to find people who can SELL things yet not just ramble on about nonsense.
i wanted to toss out peoples apps but wasnt allowed to. i guess if the person called and asked whats going on, you have to have a basis for your response. of course, saying "we're currently not hiring" covers most all situations. but people who call sorta to me gives them an upper edge b/c they are trying.

oh, I'd tell them they weren't being hired. "I'm sorry, I went with another applicant". If they (and most of them did) were stupid enough to ask why, I'd tell them. You weren't dressed appropriately for the interview. OR Based upon your communication skills shown in the interview, I don't think you'd be a good fit with our Company. OR - I didn't care for the amount of effort you put into your interview/application, and I expect 100% effort at all times.
I'd really lay it on, thinking that if their mothers didn't teach them anything, maybe I could. LOL
yea exactly - a little 'teaching of the ways of the world' helps them dumb asses. one application we had at some company asked you to draw several pictures. like it would say "draw a picture of your ideal world". it was hillarious to look at some of the crap people would draw...
