You're kidding right?

I make ~$200 a week after working here 2 years. more often then not i make less than that during lul periods (after holidays, but before summer. after summer but before holidays). As a new hire you'll probably only get ~24 hours a week if you're lucky. normally you'll start out with min hours which is 16 if you're fully available. If you aren't fully available you CAN be scheduled 0 hours. Over holidays you'll be working 6 days a week, work the job of 3 people, and as always NO OVERTIME.

It's a minimum wage job. It sucks and if you're just a bagger you don't get contract raises. Just to give you an example of the type of money I pull in....

I make ~13k, before taxes/deductions, per year. I bring home ~10k of that. I get back 900-1k from taxes.

On a more weekly level... I worked 31 hours last week I made $237.15. after taxes and deductions I recieved $177.11. That's it.

If you think you can afford it. Have at it.

Depends on your hours.

Maybe $600?

Based on those numbers, you're better off saving for a gun and ammo, as your 'condo' will be a shoe-box sized flea bag in a crack-'hood. And even THEN, you're lookin at at least $3--400/month~

 I know an increasing number of people who are living with their parents well into their twenties---and even thirties-----not because they're losers, but because they can't support themselves on these chump-ass wages. I don't mean to bring you down by saying all this, but unless you luck into finding a high-paying job or can go to school for a skill that provides you with one, well.......This is pretty much the nation wide reality. :(

I make $13.35 / hr and I live with my girlfriend in a 2 bedroom 1 bath rental house for $650 / month. She pays half of the rent and I cover pretty much food, water, gas, and electric. I usually have money left over that goes into a savings account.

I live in a two-bedroom apartment by myself. Rent is $425, total utilities come to about $100, and groceries and stuff are about $100 (monthly). That's a total monthly expense of around $625.

Kroger usually makes me work 40 hours a week, but some weeks I've only worked 30. So let's use the low figure. The weeks I worked 30 hours, I made $240 but only took home $180. This means that my monthly earnings are about $720.

Earnings = $ 720
Expenses = 625

Net Income = 95

So yes, Kroger DOES pay me enough to live by myself, but only if I do nothing but live. I could always buy less groceries or use less electricity, and use those extra few dollars to rent a movie or go on a date or something, but I have to budget my money really carefully. It helps that I have a healthy savings account to fall back on, just in case. I don't know if I'd be willing to cut it this close on a monthly basis otherwise.

Heard a story on 60 Minutes a few years ago: There was this rather large and tall black man who pan handled the L.A. free way area (which as most know is bumper to bumper traffic).

He would simply approach stalled cars, rap on the driver's side window and ask for money. WOW! BEAUTIFUL scheme.

At the the time of the 60 Minute story, this dude had made over 70 K a year.

very few , in any retale, will ever make enough to be able to live on therir own until you have been with a company for a few years and start moving up the seniority chain. There are a few places that will make exceptions but then you are sacrificing other benifits for straight pay.

Most of kroger jobs are no skill jobs. To make 13 bucks an hour is a lot for stocking. Even the management positions require very little skill.

you could look at saome of those apartments that are just for low income families. they are like 250$ a month around here for a to bedroom apartment. you pay for your utilities though and cant earn over a certain amount. youll probably have almost o security and be surrounded by lots of illegals (the ones around here are).

Make a low offer on the condo you want and make sure you get a low interest rate. Just starting out, Kroger doesn't pay much (just a little over min wage), so I wouldn't count on that for your sole income.

Last year I pulled in just under $27,000 in wages from kroger.  I pay $428 / mo for my mortgage; $120 / mo goes into acct for propery taxes; $125 +/- mo for gas & electric; $70 mo both for car&home insurance & cell phone bill; $80 for cable&hi speed internet; $100 for strip club up the street (oh wait thats extertainment expense).  Anyways I dont feel buried and i dont live paycheck to paycheck.  I got $6000 in my rainy day fund.  I drive a 2000 beater w/ 185k on it and it seems to have plenty of live left.  Weekly food expenditures is around $125 / week for me and this damn 12 yr old kid I cant seem to shake.  I cant really complain!  I do go to the casino often and play texas holdem' - usually win and make an addition $5 - 6 k a year doing that.

Someone I know managed to butt kiss their way to grocery manager in two years from starting with the company. Makes 17 an hour and 25 bucks an hour for overtime. I made min wage after a year and a half. Go figure. Nope, barely enough even if you're full time to make do by yourself.

 did you accept the min wage when they offered it to you or did you say "No Thanks" and go elsewhere using you educational background that you gained when in school to parlay yourself to a nice kooshy job?

They didn't have any other experience either of an educational background, just got lucky I suppose.

Yes, I accepted mininum wage. I really liked the people at Kroger for the most part, but I worked far too hard for what I was receiving. Always adding more and more to what I needed to get done, couldn't keep running at five thousand miles per hour without dying.

I work in the meat dept. I live by myself with a dog to provide for. My monthly pay is about 1,200 bucks or so. My total
bills add up to about 900 bucks per month. So if you are in my position Kroger pays you enough to live and then some. If you have a family or are a bagger I doubt it is enough to barely clear poverty level.
