I was just wondering how this worked. Are people with higher seniority than others in the same department allowed to take someone else's hours for a particular day? For example, can someone with high seniority that is working from 11:00-3:00 on Thursday take someone else's shift that is working 5:00-10:00 that same day? Do the hours have to be the same? Does it have to be under 32 hours? Do you have to take someone's entire work week instead of just a day?
If you have worked their longer or has less hours than some one under you you can switch shifts.
But only if the other person agrees to this.
Then, what's the point of 16Hours stating: "If you have worked their longer or has less hours than some one under you..." If the other person has to agree, doesn't that mean seniority doesn't factor in?
Our contract says nothing about claiming someone else's shifts, which sounds pretty ****ty if you ask me. The only thing ours says is overtime has to be offered to the most senior person, who can do the job, first.
from what it sounds like, our local Cincinnati contract must be the most liberal one out there when it comes to claiming hours. it basically states that you can claim anybodys full shift or part of it if you have more seniority than they do. oh sure you get some crazy manager who tries to argue otherwise but when you read it verbatim that is what it stipulates. everything is interpreted by everyone differently.
