I find this very unreasonable. Though I have stop watched myself at about 70 cases per hour, running around like a chicken with his head cut off.

I am a frozen lead. My best clerk I have stopped watched at 48 cases per hour with clean up. I have stopped watched 30 people in the past 5 weeks,

average cases per hour was 35 which I do consider low. But that is what Kroger pay's for part-timers who go and come like a revolving door with experience.

60+ is way over reasonable speed.. why is Kroger not doing time studies? Who in some cubicle thought that people getting paid $7.40 or less "an hour depending

in minimum wage" with no experience could work like that. Many many do not have even a chance to meet that goal because the times they work, and the customer

questions they have to answer. My store manager has been trying to help us out by added more hours then he is supposed too.  Though he is getting into big trouble

over it and is being forced to stop it. The workers are constantly blamed for not finishing. Example on night crew this happens 3 times a week.  3 people scheduled 900 piece truck,

8 hours of conditioning, 1 hour for receiving 1 hour for order writing.  The DDP system claims there is plenty of time too do that job? 24 hours schedule.  truly I will get office

answers like if the system says it can get done then why didn't they get it done? we have brains we can do math where am I wrong here isn't this recipe for bankruptcy???

how much can you push someone till they leave.  where I am at they can sit in a Starbucks for 2 dollars more an hour with pay increases. Where as the clerks coming in at Kroger

now do not get a raise more then 5 cents till there 3rd anniversary.  Can someone take a stab at this?

One case every min? That's insanity. Sometimes, it takes the long just to get the product from the cart to the correct place on the shelf.

My normal response to things like this is: The customer comes first. When I'm not dealing with one I'm doing what i can.

unless they're trying to give you write ups due to productivity and case counts, don't stress it. it's a grocery store. with a union. you can't get fired for this. the only way you can get fired really is if they get inside your head with all of this garbage and it causes you to blow up on a customer or manager.

keep your head down, keep working, keep thinking customer first, don't kill yourself trying to hit a case count goal and don't let anyone see you sweating it. and don't sign a damn thing they try to put in front of you

this is just the usual corporate dick-waving that nearly all companies do, in order to keep you from getting too "comfortable" and trying to make you fear for your job. because they don't have many other options to control their employees

The OP has raised some REAL interesting questions here...

Curious...HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY GIVEN THOUGHT TO DOING REAL TIME STUDIES ON CASES PER HOUR...OR WHAT IS REASONABLE REGARDING AMOUNT OF WORK IN THIS COMPANY? DO THEY LOOK AT DEMOGRAPHICS OF EMPLOYEES? AGE? HEALTH? OTHER FACTORS? OR DO THEY JUST THROW NUMBERS ON PAPER, FIGURE EVERYONE WORKS THE SAME, CAN DO THE SAME AMOUNT, HAS THE SAME MENTAL CAPACITY, AND ON AND ON? I've watched co-workers over the years. I know what's REASONABLE, what is EXPECTED, and what ACTUALLY gets done. My question is...WHERE do they get their numbers from? If someone is actually stop watching a group of employees, and comes to an average of 35 cases in one store, wouldn't it make sense that EVERY store might be averaging the same...And the DDP "system" says this, and the DDP "system" says that...OK, well, WHO invented THAT system??? And just, pray tell, what is this so-called "system" based on?...Does it accurately portray what is REALLY going on in the stores? It's almost as if someone can just make up whatever numbers suit them at the time. Are those numbers reasonable for every employee in every store...Not just for some, but for all? Probably not. And do we have people who KNOW HOW to read those numbers, and how they're skewed, while factoring in everything, or are people just saying, "The system says it can be done, so we must believe the system, right?" WHOSE BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS??? As I said at the top, does anyone REALLY do time studies on this sort of thing? I seriously want to know...

And you're right, the customer does come first...We're not working in empty stores here...Where's the disconnect, people? Something just doesn't make sense, but then again, the more you think about it, the more it rots your brain...

I've heard that most departments at some point in the near or not so near future will have time standards attached to them.  I laugh at that logic.  Like the deli --- how can you really be expected to slice at a particular speed?

OP you are correct that nobody's going to put up with this sort of nonsense for $7.40 an hour..that's what i've been telling all my managers every time something like this comes around. and they know i'm right

This is a widespread problem and should be addressed by someone immediately.  Why is it that the night stock people are always the hard-chargers in the store, but the most messed with by the "old timers"?  Just wondering.......

If any manager or co-manager attempts to give you grief about your time, simply ask them to show you how it is to be done. Do so in the most respectful manner that you can muster. Game over!

I used to work in frozen before I was transfered into the Meat department, I used to average 120 cases per hour. It takes creating a method to be fast. Once you find that element, you don't have to work hard to be fast.

Well I work at winn dixie. And me and 2 other guys can do about 50 to 60 cases an hour that's including loading it up on the cart and putting it out and opening the box and putting the product on the shelf. At first it's brutal on your body, but you get a good method and get use to it. I know a lot of lazy works that come and go that can never really get passed  maybe 30 cases an hour at their best. So lord knows what me and the other good workers could do if we were on over night and everything was already put on our isle...
