What goes on when your store is getting a 100% renovations. Every thing is getting moved things are getting taken out and things are being added. Do they cut hours. Can we help the project.

Nope you just work as usual. Then when it is over they raise the hours for the open house for all the new stuff and a few months later they cut them and expect you to do all the new stuff. Have fun.

It's a nightmare.

Shelves and items move every night and nobody has any idea where anything goes.

They will bring in a restroom trailer.  Imagine a portapotty the size of a trailer.

Everything gets coated in dirt and dust.

If you work nights, noise will sometimes be so bad you will need to bring earplugs.

Older, better made equipment is replaced with cheap lousy equipment that immediately begins to wear out and break.

Any "improvements" are only planned about 2/3 as well as they need to be because they never consulted anyone who actually worked in a grocery store.

And then you have to hear about the remodel from customers for a couple years.

Had a customer yesterday ask me where we moved the bread to, all pissed off. Told her same place it has been for 3 years since the last remodel. Still hearing about it 3 years later haha.

Yeah have the same happen here all the time.

"I'm so sick of this. Where the hell did you move the coffee to?"
"Aisle 5. Where it's been for 3 years."

Of course it doesn't help that they just reset our entire store layout and the coffee filters aren't with the coffee anymore. WTF...

My local store got a remodel after we did.  Their new layout doesn't make any sense whatsoever.  And even after the remodel the store looks like hell at all hours of the day and night.  They must never condition.

We're getting a remodel in July. I'm already not happy about it because instead of vertical aisles, they'll be horizontal and all eff-ed up. The store set-up now is perfect! It has good flow! It just needs a Tim Hortons to make it complete, and me completely happy every morning.

Horizontal aisles?
I really hope they don't do that here, that just sounds stupid.

That's interesting. The store my family used to frequent when we lived a town or 2 over, used to have horizontal aisles, but when they got remodeled and expanded, they went to vertical aisles. Strange.

Oh great. while I've shopped at my store before I was an employee, I've only been working there a little while and don't know what specific aisles things are on. We are in the middle of a remodel that should be done completely with the Grand Re-Opening by October...They are rotating all the registers and aisles the opposite direction and moving the pharmacy to the other side of the store and everything. This should be fun...

It sounds like it's going to be like the store in Sidney, if you're anywhere near that area. I hate going into that store. The aisles are awful. But they have a liquor store, so it's a wash.

That sounds like a complete nightmare. I can imagine how much the customers are b*tching.

I've never been in the Sidney store but I know someone who used to work in it, I'll have to ask her just how bad it was, lol.

After more than 6 months, it looks like they're finally getting ready to start the expansion on our store.  I've been through two expansions before but in both those times all we did was expand into the adjacent building.  This next expansion they're building on to the existing building and making it nearly double the size it is now.  On top of that, they're renovating the entire shopping center.  The first thing they have to do is dig up the parking lot and re-route the sewer and water lines.  They also have to tear down several buildings.  The areas are already blocked off and they've started digging in one area.  So things should start to progress now.

Hahaha! I know, right? I have no plans on telling anyone which store I'm at either, but I imagine I've given enough info that some could guess.
