Need a New Job
Permalink

This is my situation, I graduated with a degree in web design 6 months back, naively thinking i was going to land an entry-level, full-time dream job. what i found out instead was how competitive it was and have had so many interviews with no job offers. anyway, recently i decided to settle for any full-time job until i can get my foot in the door with web design. still, i have had 0 luck with getting any FT job either (with obama in office, its just impossible at this point) . as a last resort, i have decided to secure the job i have as a bagger and switch departments. i cant stand the fast-paced drama of the front end any longer lol. i'm the kind of worker thats laid back and likes to work at my own pace, while getting things done in a timely manner but not rushing around crazy like a lunatic. what department would be best for me so i can be happy with my job? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ;D

You're always busy rushing around like a lunatic at Kroger, especially if you try to get everything they want you to get done in time done in time...

What you are looking for I don't think you can find at Kroger. The company, like others, seems to have adopted the practice of getting by with as little help as possible, so every department is going to be understaffed. Plus, you're still going to be subjected to the stress of working on the front end because you'll be called to check, bag or get carts multiple times a day all the while you fall further and further behind on your own work.

see if you can stock for drug/gm or go to produce.  they don't have the fast-paced drama of the front end but there's plenty of work to do.

i know other depts think they're bad with drama but our front end is a disaster right now.

Pay to have a professional resume done.

You are clearly intelligent and speak very well; enough shoe shining from me, you need to decide what you want to do with the tools I just admired that you have.

I was just reading the other day about something along these lines. Have you ever thought of making your own portfolio of web sites you have done? Do some freelance work so that you actually can get a portfolio going. Go to non-profits and see if you can make them a website for cost only. Find others who need one done and then do the website itself FOC and then just charge them fees when it needs updated. There are so many ways you can get a good portfolio going to make yourself more enticing to prospective employers, especially if you can bring clients in with you. Go to small businesses, local charities, or just scour the internet for poorly made wesbites and then go from there.

Good luck. If you want to stay at Kroger, then keep an eye on career postings.
