Vacation Time
Permalink

I've been working at Kroger for over two years as a part-time courtesy clerk. I'm wondering if part-time employees ever get more than a week of a vacation time. In addition, since my vacation is unpaid what exactly distinguishes it from days requested off? My store is a member of the Atlanta local 1996, would I find the information I'm looking for in the union contract? My situation is that I would like to go abroad in April and I was wondering if it would be possible to stack a bunch of requested days at the end of my vacation such that I could at least get a week and half off, preferably two.

Thank you for your help.

I've never heard of anyone not getting paid for a vacation.  The reason you're not getting paid is you may need to let someone in payroll know you're going on vacation.  At our store you simply fill out a clipboard that's by the timeclock.

I got my vacation pay last year without having to let anyone in payroll know.

Well. maybe your store is different.  At our store, we have to inform payroll if we're to receive vacation pay.

Same here. We have to mark what days we're taking for vacation in the schedule book under requests as well as in a separate book.

We are supposed to have a book. But no one has used it. At least not in our dept. We just tell our associate manager and she makes sure it's taken care of. The store 20 miles down the road? You can't do that, the ARM there isn't good at making sure it's done.

Check with YOUR store to see how it's done.
