Just wondering how all my fellow kroger people really feel about their jobs like hate or in between. I have been with the company 16 years and some change and I can honestly say for the most part I really enjoy my job. While i may not agree with everything that goes on key retailing, loads of paperwork, idiot managers, micromanaging ....so on so forth the work itself the people I work with and the pay make it worth it. If I hated it I would have quit 15 years or so ago. Better than the roofing job I had before I started at Kroger.
These are my thoughts on my job would be interested in hearing yours.

Depends on who I'm working with. I work in the deli. There are some coworkers who make it a really good day and I actually enjoy my job on those days. Unfortunately there are two or three workers in particular who make work miserable - they run away from the counter at the first opportunity to avoid waiting on customers, and they get bitchy if they have to wait on people. They'll only help customers if we're REALLY busy but if there's two customers standing in line, forget about getting help from those lazy bums. On those days, I really hate my job.

I like the people, i like the job. I don't like the union and the games the company has to play because of the union. I have got promotions watching the Store manager try his hardest while the union takes their cash weekly and ignores me.
Working for Kroger has been a waste of time, and I'm a bit sad about it.
It's just a dead end minimum wage part time only McJob. There's no future here.
I like who I work with, especially since they got rid of some problem managers, but I've grown to hate the customers, and the pay and hours are so bad I need to find a new job if I ever want to move out of my parent's house.
The management in 973 central is 2face and treats everyone different.
I work everyday I am sopose to and have no ideal what is going on at the store, everything is hush. I walk up and management gets quiet.
On the other end its nice to keep my shelves stocked and cleaned and know that I wont ever have to talk to a management person for I'm not a choosen 1.
I don't like the dishonesty from upstairs. We appreciate all you do for the company, keep this up and you'll earn full time, I'll take care of you, blah, blah. Nonsense. The old timers know the games being played. It's worse when their power struggles spill out onto the floor and wreck havok on customer experience.
I like it most when people generally respect each other, show up on time and do the job. Mistakes happen, it's impossible to avoid them. But don't make the job harder by playing mind games. People get annoyed and stop caring.
It depends on the day . Some days its real chill .. Extremly chill depending on what other baggers are working . Like yesterday was fine but I was annoyed because the store failed thier retail check and I got picked to clean all the bathrooms from top to bottom and it took longer than usual because for some reason everybody had to use the bathroom everytime I started to clean it . At the end of the day though its just a minimum wage job where I'm doing more than 7.40 a hour , work . Which is why I'm looking for another job .
I've been at Krogers since 2009 in houston, and honestly i really do enjoy my job. I work in the produce department. I'm a health nut, so i kind of like to work around the fresh stuff anyway :). the one thing I could really do without are the 3-5 pain the ass coworkers with bad attitudes that rotate in and out of the store. and of course, micromanaging supervisors. but i guess you get that at ANY job. The pay is super crappy but thank god my husband brings an income.
i like some of the people i work with but for the most part theyre all two faced ass holes. my manager wants me taken off floor then approaches me later and asked why i got taken off floor and asked me why i didnt try hard enough. they have stupid crazy expectations out of there employees and i only make 8 dollars an hour. also my manager called me a prick to my face the other day. now he is an unproffesional ass hole who wont say a word to me. youre 49, a manager at kroger, and never went to college so **** you too.
I've been at Kroger about 4 years. The first 6 months were great. It's been a downhill ride since then. I could/would not, in all honesty, recommend working at Kroger. Back in the 70's Kroger was one of the 10 best places to work in the US. Now, Kroger is competing with WalMart to see which can become the worst, at least from an employee point of view. If I were job searching right now, and knowing what I know about Kroger, I would try to work just about anywhere else, even for less $$, benefits and worse hours. I plan on staying with Kroger for maybe 2 more years at the most then getting the hell out. Life is too short to waste it working harder & harder to insure that the managers and corporate butt-kissers all get their bonuses. I'd rather be on welfare, food stamps, etc. than work at Kroger any longer than absolutely neccessary. But hey...some people like being abused & taken advantage of and if that's your bag then you're just what Kroger is looking for. You could even get on the fast track to become a store manager. Good luck...you're gonna need it!!!!!

I have just over 4 years in. The first two years were awesome. I loved my job i looked forward to coming in every day and was happy to work my ass off. Now here we are 2 years later. No moral at my store. I hate getting up to go to work. I dread clocking in. Hmmmm what happened about 2 years ago that made it like that? Key retailing. We got points deducted because our signs were not straight and because our sign that said sink wasnt hung up. Those morons have made a great job miserable not to mention we have terrible store management who habe no business being store management as only 1 of then has any experience of working in a department. I work my ass off just to come in tge next day and get my ass chewed out. The hell with that. And the price drops they just did..... we are selling almost twice the amount of product but are doing no better in sales so thebonly difference is we have to do more work. And please explain to me how in the hell a store can be up on budget 9 days in a row and get hours cut?
My job itself is not bad, dealing with the dumbass ACSMs and the being treated badly is terrible however. After not being rewarded for hard work for one year i do not try anymore and could carealess what they say. As soon as i turn 18 im out that bitch
zone staff (the people above store mgt. level who visit from time to time) are all arrogant pricks who look down their noses at the unwashed masses who work at kroger and every one of them acts as though they are a goddamn king and we are all peasants...literally every single zone staff i've met in the 7 years i've worked at kroger has been this way. it doesn't help any that every time a zone staff visits and walks the store, our store manager and co mgrs follow them around like puppy dogs, or more accurately as an escort/tour guide so that our feudal lord doesn't see anything he isn't supposed to, or experience anything that might paint the store in a less-than-perfect light.
i have literally never had a zone staff walk our store, and not had a bad taste in my mouth from the visit. most times the zone staff just ignore people like me working on the sales floor, but on the rare occasions one of them has been magnanimous enough to speak to me, i am always shocked by their overinflated egos (usually goes along with the overinflated bellies!)
also, as others have said, hard work is NOT rewarded at kroger - this is due to among other things, the union contracts that keep kroger from actually having to give out decent living wages or cost of living increases or merit pay - all of these things are impossible at kroger.
The last time a zong mgr. visited our store, he apparently flipped out on the comanagers because the regular employees didn't say hi to him when he went by.

This is so very accurate - especially the last part. There's no point in breaking your back at Kroger because you're going to get treated the same as those that get by doing the littlest amount of work possible. Working there is fine if you just need a job that brings in a couple hundred dollars a week while you're looking for something better, but there's very little incentive to work your way up in the company or stay in your current position for many years since the pay is terrible, the raises are horrible and the benefits generally laughable if they weren't so depressingly bad. I mean, yeah, Kroger is better than not working, but that's about it.
