I'm sick today. It's gotten pretty bad over the last few hours and it seems to be getting worse. Luckily I was off today, but I don't see myself getting better by tomorrow. I'd rather just call off tonight and not have to worry about waking up 2 hours early to call off tomorrow morning. Do they give you a hard time if you try to call off a day ahead of time?
why would you wait until 2 hrs before your shift? call as soon as there's a manager to take ur call or as soon as u know u'll be out. your dept might need to replace you and it can take time to find somebody to come in.
why dont you go to your family doctor, or go to a walk in clinic . You have insurance
doctors cost money. and they are not there for simplistic things like a tummy ache or a common cold. why cant people be sick for a day and just call off and stay home w/o the added burden of bothering the doctors office

I am no longer part of the oppressed, evil workforce of Kroger! Can you say "Hallelujah"
I think it's important to let them know as soon as you know. I mean, people get DO get sick after all and no one wants a sneezing, coughing poor schmuck of a worker walking around :). i guess itll come down to your manager what "attitude" they have towards the whole thing, but people have to understand that its perfectly normall to be sick and its advisable to stay home!!
Whether they give you a hard time or not, you have a right to call off. My manager always goes for the guilt trip, but if you're sick you're sick. I stick to my guns, I just say "sorry, I would if I could."
In the two years I've been working at Kroger, I called in sick once. A few months back, I started feeling sick during the week, but tried to tough it out. By Saturday, I felt terribly miserable and knew what I needed was a day in bed. I worked that Saturday and was scheduled to work an eight hour shift on Sunday. Wasn't going to happen. I called the store Saturday night, spoke to the CSM who just happened to be closing that night and said there wasn't any way I was going to be able to come to work the next day. He didn't give me a hard time... but I think it probably comes down to what kind of person you're dealing with. Ultimately though, the more notice you give, the better, as that gives them more time to cover your shift. In my case, I provided almost sixteen hours notice that I wasn't coming in.
