Don't get along with someone

I work with a girl, and she's nasty to me for no reason. She pretty much hated me from day one, before I had ever met her or done anything to her. Well anyway, she makes snide comments over everything I do. Whenever I work with her, I know it's not going to be a good day, and it's stressing me out. I don't know if I should report her to someone or not. Will they do anything about it if I do?

Ignore her and don't give her any reaction. Some people are just hateful and need someone to dislike. It's not high school, don't play into the stupid childish games. That's all it is. A manager won't do anything about snide comments, and then you'll just seem like a tattle tale if you say something about snide comments. I don't know how old you are, but it's so much easier to not give a damn about what other people say/think the older you get. Granted, I'm only in my 30's but I am at work to earn a paycheck and to do my best, not cater to everyone's attitudes and silly games. Most people who act like that are threatened in one way or another or need to make themselves seem like a bad @ss. Eff them. Do your job. Come in - do your job then clock out and go home and don't worry about them.

Pull her aside in private and confront her. I don't mean start a fight, but make it very clear to her that you are not there to take her abuse. We're talking about a bully here, and never mind what motivates her to act out like that; ignoring them and not taking a stand is considered weakness by them, and that's what they crave: to keep making you their victim.

That alone should do it. But if not, and she escalates things, by all means take it to management. Arrange a sit down with you, her and a salaried manager. Keep your cool and watch her instantly get resentful and overly defensive. Believe me, what with all the work place violence going on these days, management will take it seriously.

Best of luck....Please let us know what happens.

Chances are, she won't escalate it. It sounds like mere cattiness. Ignoring someone's bitchiness is not being weak. They will see that you're not playing into it and will find someone who will confront them or start being a b!tch back. And when that happens?? The original instiagator will run to management about the big meanie.

I respect the hell out of you nocturnia, but I don't think confrontation is the key here. This is a typical female situation where one feels threatened and is being a bully. Ignore the bully and they will find someone else who will give them the reaction they want and crave. Usually a newbie. They want to assert their awesomeness, and they usually throw in about how long they've been working there and how many people they've seen come and go. Seen it a million times.

I really wish that were the case. cry I haven't spoken to her a lot in the two years that she's been there, and when I do it's just about stuff that is necessary for the job. When she makes her remarks I ignore her, but when I ignore her and go about my business she starts trying to talk to other people about me. Ignoring her hasn't stopped the problem.

I respect your opinions too; not saying anyone is wrong and I'm right. This issue comes down to a matter of personal choice, and the only other one I can think of would be to catch her outside off the clock. Maybe put some lemonade in her britches. That's how I used to roll, any way......not REALLY recommending it now, but it sho did work! lol~~~

If this is all the case, then by all means do what nocturnia said. I assumed you were new and she had been there awhile and trying to show how "awesome and amazing" she is by being a bully. Go forth and conquer her, as I'm sure she has run off others before you. Good luck, be strong and honest.

Absolutely! I hope the situation gets resolved without the OP getting harassed any further by this twit. Too many cameras around to catch her off the clock. ;)
