UFCW keeps takeing my money :(

how do i get the union to stop takeing money out of my paycheck i have been trying for a year now, and they keep beating around the bush, or give me false information, its childish. i sent them lots of letters between the week before and 2 weeks after the anniversy of my sign up date, and although i'm "out of the union" they are still takeing money out of my paycheck, and they said that the instructions to get out of paying the union are on the union application, which i dont have. i got one from the front desk, but saw no relevant information, so perhaps it was a different one. does anyone know what to do?

My suggestion is to threaten them with a lawsuit.

Its sad that you want to leave the union, because the more members you have the stronger your neogiation powers are in terms of contracts. If you really must insist on leaving you gotta do it two weeks before your anniversary date. The best way to assure them you want out is to send them a letter via registered mail to show you're opting out before the terms are up. Remember, if you get into trouble with the company or something happens to your pay don't expect top-notch satisfaction in terms of getting a grievance started.

in a forum where everyone posts as anonymous it helps if use quotes to point out who you are insulting, but if it makes you feel better EVERYONE IN MY STORE EXCLUDING MEAT DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THEY ARE IN A DIFFERENT UNION WANTS TO GET  OUT OF PAYING THE UNION. the union is a bunch of scam artists, nothing more. they never help with anything, they never accomplish anything. sure every great great once in a while they might pull something off for some bull**** publicity. if i ever got fired i wouldn't get the union to help me get back on because something like that would seriously screw up my resume. seriously, i dont want the unions help for anything, and i dont want to pay them for doing nothing.

You anonymous guys do realize that every store, every union rep, every union division itself, is different right?

Some stores might have great union reps that back their employees to the end, others might have ones in the managers pockets?

I'm not saying all unions are bad but if you think every single one is good, you're naive.

My union rep did NOTHING and never talked to me while i wanted a promotion. The store manager updated me every day until i got promoted. The union can go fugg themselves, i cant wait to drop them. Places with no union around here have better wages and benefits, what a scam.

Make sure you notify accounting and let them know you are out. The union wont do it, so you have to.

4hourrush is right.  My store is one of those were the rep and stewards are in the managers' pockets.  I hate that I joined the union but I wanted benefits and was told that was the only way.

I thought our steward and reps were no good so I stepped up and did something about it. Why don't some of you take ownership of your jobs and your unions?

If your Union Representative isn't actively representing your interest and enforcing your contract you should contact the UFCW Internation Office in Washington. I assure you this will give them the push they need. I also advise everyone to be proactive and attend the monthly meetings. Mine for example is the last tuesday of each month. I bring up important issues, problems, and ask questions.

Please.  I take ownership of my job by doing it and as much as everybody else's as I can.

As for the union... pfft.  I'll probably be at work when the next one is held.  It took months to get a copy of the contract but they didn't forget to dock my pay for dues.

First off, as moderator of this board I almost deleted some of the posts on this particular thread but decided against it.  I personally do not care if a particular individual wishes to leave the union or not.  I personally do not care if other individuals call the above person a scab or a hero.  Thats the "way of the world", right?

On another note - I suggest literally going to the union office one day and resolving the issue.  In my town (cincinnati) the office is relatively close or at least I can call them up.  Ask them point blank what they need to finalize removing you from the union.  Maybe you already are and they paperwork between the union and Kroger is lost or delayed?  Maybe you need to contact Kroger and find out what is going on.

I'm going to explain to you, exactly how to solve the issue that you have with the union. In order to do that i need to know what state you are working in.

Thank you
