Front end. You have no freedom. Your supervisor is a micromanager.

I wouldn't say that. If you're outside bringing in carts, you can't be nagged at to do this or that and you don't feel like you're being pulled four different ways at once. As long as you have the stamina and muscle, it can be one of the easiest and least stressful jobs at Kroger because you're just outside, by yourself, away from everyone.

Just be careful not to get run over and it's an easy day.

Most supervisors (from my observations) won't and neither will the co-managers, but of course, this all depends on the people working at the store. I know our supervisors can barely spend thirty minutes of their eight hour shifts off the register. They don't have time to run the floor, let alone come outside and stand around.

I've never done it but I would say front end. It just sounds like the worst, being tied down to a register all day. Can't even go on a break unless someone approves it.

I started out on the front and then moved bakery.  Believe me, nothing could make me want to go back.

depends a lot on what dept is that store's managers red headed step child.

they always have one dept the ride to death, and that alone makes it suck.

personally, kitchen/ deli was our hardest at my store

I'm on the front end.  Previously, a lot of our managers were obnoxious micromanagers and caused a lot of problems.  They have all mysteriously gotten fired or moved to different stores.  Now all of our managers are fairly chill, and it's not so bad.

Our deli is the department with the highest turnover rate, and everybody there is pretty much unhappy all the time.  It seems like most of their complaints are due to being laughably understaffed or having too many new people at the same time.

Being a bagger sucks if you are the only good bagger around. If the baggers before you suck at carts/don't do their job there's a good chance you will get yelled at too. The key for bagging is communicating what you are doing. If you work by instinct without telling your supervisor, they'll likely call you up and wonder where you've been, even if you were doing what you were supposed to do. It depends on what kind of supervisor you have, if they micro-manage everything then communicate with them as much as possible but if they are more laid back and just want things done, then don't worry about it.

front end.

courtesy clerk is thankless.

cashiering isn't bad except when you get people shopping at the register or beligerant customers.  or extreme couponers.

self-checkout is a pretty good spot.  just keep things flowing and relatively clean.  clearing scales and checking id gets old though.

weekend overnight cashier sucks because of the scammers, theives, drunks, crazies ...

floor supervisor is crazy because managers yell at you about dips and queueing and sweeps and bathrooms and carts and surveys and 100 other issues.  and when you have those extreme couponers you've got to fix it.

customer service has to be quick and friendly while you see customers robbing the company blind and your name is down as authorizing refunds you're told by management to do.  you also spend forever waiting for lotto to print or western union's services.

I had a choice between deli and cashier. Sounds like it's a toss-up. I picked cashier. I don't like doing a lot of clean-up plus I thought it would be easier to leave at the end of the day. Maybe I'm wrong?

So you're lazy?  That won't get you very far, especially at Kroger.
