What the...why not just buy them now instead of risking your job by hiding and buying them later?

If you're talking about stuff that's been marked down such as bakery items, then the answer is no.  Kroger policy has always been that anything marked down must be made available to the public first.  They're really starting to crack down on that.  They also say if you mark something down you're not allowed to buy it.  So if you want something, you have to have someone else mark it down and put it back on the shelf.  Then you just have to hope you can get to it before someone else does.  We had one woman in the deli buy up a bunch of barbecue that was being marked down.  As soon as the person who was marking down the barbecue put it back on the shelf she would grab it.  As long as you do that and you're off the clock you're okay.  What you can't do is grab something and keep it away somewhere until you're ready to go home.

You absolutley cannot hide things and buy them days later.

Everything you buy should be available to any customer at the time you buy it.  Close outs, manager specials ... nothing can be horded away.

Since I know now I won't be doing it again. I hide cheap mark-downs when I don't have enough money on me, but buy them when I get paid.

Thanksbiggrin

While this apparently is against official policy, if we want to buy a markdown, we put it behind the counter. but we have to buy it that night.
Still no one makes a big deal about it. Once we're off the clock, we're customers too.

If you are buying markdown items never use your plus card. As a precaution.

Generally my store doesn't care about markdowns if we buy them at the end of the day and that we're not marking down down in favor of a cheaper price for ourselves. Generally, if I want anything marked down I will mark it down for the public and grab maybe 1 - 2 of that particular item. Also, I will have another clerk mark it down so that they know i'm not discounting myself.

Most of the time they usually have a bascart in the backroom with damage and they usually give Kroger employees dips on markdowns that are going to be loaded into the mark down bins down an aisle.

Since I work in the deli and bakery, when I see something I want that's marked down, I just take it and put it in the back room cooler until I get off work. If someone asks about it I can just say that it didn't get put out for some reason, or that I had wanted to make a sample out of it, or that I thought something was wrong with it and I wanted to ask the deli head about it. Or just deny knowing why it's back there all together. Honestly though no one has ever asked me.

If you do this you can technically buy the things you marked down without ever getting caught. also never let anybody but you use your employee plus card.

I've bought things i've marked down before on my plus card (after i've clocked out for the night) and no one's ever told me not to.

Heck even one of the comanagers has a markdown cake waiting for her in our cooler right now so obviously there isn't a problem hiding anything at least in my store.

Or if you're marking down many of the same things every day, there's always a chance that someone else will mark down the same things tomorrow. For instance, if I'm marking down a particular item because of a close date, and I see that there will be more of that product expiring soon, I'll wait until the next person marks it down, and buy it then. Of course, this is assuming that more than one person is doing the markdowns...
