I got hired at a Food 4 Less store back in October, and things haven't been going too well. I have no major problems with my co workers or mangement, its the customers and the enviroment of the store that I do not like. Since Food 4 Less caters to lower income people that can't afford the higher prices of other stores, a lot of the customers that shop there can be very shady. I've witness a lot of drama working there especially after dark such as fights, crazy crackheads stealing merchandise, a lot of thugs hanging aroung in the parking lot up to no good. I don't feel safe working there anymore and don't want to transfer to another Food 4 Less store because they're all the same. I was thinking if it was possible to transfer from a Food 4 Less store to a Ralphs store which is a more upscale store in better neighborhoods (I know there is going to be crazy customers at Ralphs too but I still rather work there). Since both Ralphs and Food 4 Less are Kroger stores I was wondering if it was possible from one to another. I think the only difference is that they are under a different union contract, but since I've only worked for the company & union for 6 months I have nothing to lose such as benifits or seniority . By the way I'm a cashier.
It should be possible, I think what you'd want to do is go into a Ralph's and ask to talk to their HR person, or at least get their phone #, and see if they can find any current cashier openings for you. I think you would lose seniority, but your 6 months of experience and hours worked would transfer over as far as pay grades go.
Only thing i'd suggest too is let your supervisor know that you're considering this - you might find the perfect spot at a nice Ralph's close to your house, but it'd be torpedoed by your supervisor who would be caught off guard.
