Deli Clerk pay
Permalink

Hey everyone

I had a question about getting raises. I started off making $7,30 an hour and after a year and 4 months I'm making $7,40 an hour. A while back my co-worker told me he started receving raises every other month. He started working at kroger 3 months before I started. he's now making $9.40 an hour, which is insane because we both do the same things. He doesnt have any other job experiences working as a Deli Clerk, I didnt know he was making that much until he asked me if I was getting raises, too and he's not lying about it because he let me see his paystub one time. I'm not a selfish person, but I kind of feel like it's a bit unfair. We've been working almost the same time and what makes me even more upset is that he slacks on his job a lot! He also takes "smoke breaks" every other hour and a final full 30 minute break at the end of the day. He never clocks out so thats why nobody really notices it, sometimes he's gone for even longer periods of times. he always ignores customers and have me slicing meet while he's texting and every other day he's one hour late, just like today that he was supposed to be there at 3 and he came in at 4:30 pm. so Yeah I'm not being selfish I just feel it's a little unfair, since I work my butt off every day. So any of you know why he would be getting raises? is having kids a reason why someone would get a raise? Thanks

Sounds like someone is favoring him or something. Raises should be by contract, maybe he was hired on under a different contract than you? I've been working for this company for over 2 years now and am only making $7.75. Something seems fishy.

Here I am repeating what I have said numerous time in the past....

When you were hired, you accepted the wage offered to you.  It was your choice. You could of declined it and not taken the job.  You decided to accept it and now you see a fellow employee making more than you and it upsets you.  I have very little sympathy for people who take a very low wage offered and then find out that others around them are making significantly more.

As far as the contract, both you and him should be receiving raises every 500 hours.  I doubt he is getting a raise sooner but anything is possible.  He might be at 250 hr where you are at 500.  All of this should be found in your contract booklet and should of been looked over BEFORE starting your position.

If he is a slacker, take pride in yourself that you work hard.  Don't get discouraged by his bad work etiquette

After a year and 4 months shouldn't he have gotten more than 1 10 cent raise though?

I've been working for Kroger about a year and a half and when I first got hired, minimum wage was 7.40. Now, with wage increases and raises, i'm at 8.00.

Contract "booklet"? We are supposed to get a booklet upon joining the union?

My friend told me yesterday that on his kroger profile he doesnt show up as "deli clerk" but bakery, even though he's never worked in the bakery department. Do you think this has to do with all the raises he's getting? I mean its been really crazy because in like 6 months he went from making 7 something an hour to making $9.40 an hour! and I know he's not lying cuz he showed me his paystub and he was actually surprised himself.

AS of now my Kroger Profile says

Current Pay Rate $7.40
Current Job Step 30
Next Pay Rate $7.45
Next Job Step 0040
Accrued Credited Quantity 13.00
Quantity Remaining 13

My position title is Deli/Clerk

I was aware of the wage offer and I was fine with it, but since he started getting raises and he does the same work I do! and he's supposed to be a deli Clerk as well, I started wondering if maybe there was something else I wasnt aware of so thats why I decided to ask on the forum. Thanks for all your feedback.

The wage scale should be spelled out in the contract.  No one should be making more or less than someone under the same circumstances.
