Me and my husband were both let go from the company. He had been there 22 years as a department head and I had been there 12 years as manager. GET OUT as soon as possible. You would think after 22 years they wouldnt do something like this but they did. Oh and if you think you will get unemployment YOUR WRONG. Got it for 7 weeks then they took us to court and LIED under oath to wiggle their way out of having to pay it. In fact it now has to be paid back. All this because a manager told him to bag his own fresh fish while he was shopping off the clock  because she didn't know how to do it. BEWARE

Well sounds like you two were the shifty ones here! It's a tale as old as time itself--- employee IMPROPERLY marksdown or puts wrong price per lb. on an item- a blatant violation of company policy that is well known to all -and then gets fired for stealingl! Exactly where were you going to store this stinking, wet fish until you finished your shift...let me guess ...right back in your work area eh? Here's a tip- on your next job think twice (or just even once in your case) before you do something that puts suspicion on you or your mate. What did you hope to gain anyway- save a couple minutes when leaving for the day or cheat KR out of a couple bucks? Whatever lame reason... was it worth both your jobs? AND NO YOU DON'T GET UNEMPLOYMENT WHEN FIRED FOR ANY FORM OF DISHONESTY- THAT'S ONLY COMMON SENSE WHICH DOESN'T SEEM TO BE TOO COMMON WITH YOU TWO BRAINIACS....

Kroger has specific guidelines as to how/when employees are allowed to shop. It is not unfair, it is to protect against loss.

All current Kroger employees should realize a few things to avoid this situation:

1. NEVER weigh or wrap your own random weight items.

2. NEVER shop on your paid breaks. You are still "on the clock" and can face write-ups or even termination.

3. NEVER buy alcohol before or during a shift. ALWAYS be off the clock for the day.

4. NEVER scan your own items at a register (this doesn't include USCAN, but it is more secure to go through a regular line or customer svc desk anyway).

5. ALWAYS place marked-down items on the shelf for at least a few minutes so you can't be accused of marking items down just for yourself.

6. NEVER place merchandise that has not been paid for yet anywhere in a department or personal locker. If you must "reserve" something, run it by management first and ask customer svc desk to hold it with your name on it.

If you follow these, you probably won't have problems unless you are on a short list anyway.
