Hey guys. Just got the job and starting monday. I work 5-10 cleaning the deli. I looked at my schedule and im only working 3 day this week. I really want more then 3 days. Will I get more after the first couple of weeks or should I ask for more?

Uh, you didn't even tell us the number of hours you have right now.

Anyhow, you're on probation. They can do whatever they want with you right now. Just be greatful you get ANY hours. They'll call you if they need you.

Work hard and let them know you want as many hours as possible. That's the best you can do

Wow. You should be lucky to get any hours. I've seen people get trained and then not get any hours. That's how kroger treats it employees. All companies should follow kroger and instead of laying people off just don't give them any hours.

tell your manager they can call you anytime.

15 hours isnt bad

it runs on the seniority system... so being new and probably at the bottom of the schedule you cant get more hours that the person above you on the schedule with equal availability

You will get the crappy hours until about a year in. If you can hold out that long.

Let's see, the poster mentioned being scheduled 5-10 for three days. 10-5 is 5 hours per day x 3 days = 15 hours.  So, yes, we were told the number of hours.

Yep. I still get my fair share of crappy hours after a year and a half, in fact I have to close 2 days this week and only got 18 hours this week.

Tell them to call you whenever they need help and always pick up the phone and come in to work when they say. Kroger likes alot of part time employees. they don't like to pay overtime to full time 40 hour people. management likes to call the people to come in that they know will answer the phone and come in. So if you prove reliable you will get more hours.

How do you survive on that? My husband makes decent money, and I finally make decent money again (yes, even at Kroger) and it's still tight. I couldn't fathom being somewhere for a year or so and making barely min. wage.

But this week they REALLY cut back on hours.
