Recent college grad looking atthe Kroger co-manager. What's the salary like? I hear it's anywhere from 35-41k? Why such a gap? What's it like in the Michigan area (suburbs of Detroit)-affluent and busy area.
I'm looking for a true career where I can grow and climb the ladder....is this possible with Kroger? I'd like to get to corporate one day or become a regional manager.
I'm at a cross point right now. I've been offered a job starting out at 41k selling ****ty, worthless for-proft colleges as a recuiter at EDMC in Pittsburgh. It seems terrible becuase all the reviews look bad for EDMC and there's no way to make a career out of it. Job stability isn't there either. The only decent thig is the pay.
I don't know what to do. Kroger sounds promising, but I can't live on 30 something K a year before taxes. I have mad student loan debt, and other bills. Any advice?
Don't get me wrong, kroger managers make alot of money. I've been told you can do anything you want in this company and have many opportunities for advancement. But for what they have to put up with to me it's not worth the money. The people you would have to manage may not be the smartest, might ignore the obvious, or just plain won't do there jobs. Worst part is they are protected by the union so you will have endless paper work to do if you do want to fire them and the union may even bring the employee back to work after you've done the paper trail. One of the worst things about being a manager is your an at will employee. that means the company can do whatever they want with you. they move managers around to all stores even if is 2 hours away. They can force other positions on you even if you don't want To do that .And kroger may have some rules and regulations you might not agree with but have to enforce anyway.
for those starting out it is 34k and goes up with experience. Normally what I see managers doing is using kroger for the training and experience then after their 2 year is up going somewhere that pays a hell of a lot more.
It's a very ****ty work environment too. You'll be treated like a bagger and work 10 hours or more a day. good luck.

Idon't mysewith as been with kroger for 6 years and have thought about hoping into the asst. Manager program but I really don't think it's worth it. I'm a department head and with the money I make now with my ot, I probably make the same as most of the asst. Managers. Plus as mentioned you put in a lot of time and it basically assumes your life, working weekends, holidays, and long hour days. So if you don't have a life and don't want one outside of kroger than this job is for you
