Checking Balance of EBT Card
Permalink

Ok, I'm a new cashier. I wanted to do stock but they did not put me in that position. The head end cashier from what I have seen and heard is ahole. I want to know as much as possible so that I do not have to ask him for much. He does not like being ask questions. I'm looking through the training manual as of now. The store I will be working has alot of customers that use EBT cards. I do not know how to check the balance of the card on the register. Could someone share what it is? I know its 20 something something...Thanks in advance.

I was always told they had to buy an item to get the balance on EBT or just call card support #.  At the service desk you can do 42 sign-on to check the balance of a Kroger gift card.

There's a special kiosk thing in my store for people to check their EBT balance before they shop.

At any register you can do:
-20, signon
-choose 1 or 2 for ebt food or ebt cash
-swipe card through pinpad
-have them enter pin
-balance prints on receipt

To check kroger gift card balance, it's 21, signon then swipe gift card.

Why don't all stores have that? Gobacks is a huge problem during EBT time at my store. It is because people don't check their balance before they shop. Having this may help? Does it?

I really have no idea since i'm not on front end but I would imagine it would be a big help, that way you don't have (as many at least) people loading up a cart full and then realizing they don't have the money -_-

Nah, not so much. ~90% of the time they just wait til they swipe their card to find out how much they have on it.

HAHAHAHA.  Trust me, some do that anyway.  It's called "shopping at the register" and happens all over.
