Quitting (At Will Empl State)

Im getting ready to quit after my next shift. I plan on working out the entire shift. It's a closing. I work in an "At will" State. My big question is how important is a 2 weeks notice in an at will state? I dont plan on coming back. As I'd rather work at wally world in comparison. (Same Employee rights - none)

I had asked for reduced hours, and already signed something that says "I'd rather work 15 hours....and not take the Full Time I was eligible for" Of course they didn't notify me I was eligible until after I had signed. Now my hours are 28-32 hours per week. So now they can work me any number of hours and I will never be able to enter FT status.

Also, one of the managers is making me feel like im working in a hostile work environment. (placing impossible demands that i dont follow so that I dont go into overtime and get my department head yelled at.)

It's always best to give two weeks notice, regardless if you really hate your job and want to quit immediately. I know Kroger is generally a dead end job, but it shows respect for your crew you work with. Not having someone for certain days/hours and giving them more work when they're more than likely already stressed because there's too much work they can't get done already.

I understand that, and I had notified and talked it over with some of my department. Primarily those who would be most affected. They understood. I asked if they wanted me to hold off until the end of my current schedule and they (the most senior member) said not to worry about it. Trust me I really fought with myself over it. I was rather ashamed with myself for not being able to give a longer notice.

I went in tonight so that another co worker wouldn't have been stuck with a 12 hour shift.

Two of my other co workers, as horrible as I am for saying this, I couldn't care less for. One would do very sloppy work, while the other one has come in multiple times drunk. But due to his position, and being on friendly terms with management... Never suffered disciplinary action for it. And, it wasn't that we suspected. His breath could peel paint, and it was another senior member that had pointed it out.

Still, all in all, I do feel a lot better now. And hopefully after a few more weeks can raise my arms to  shoulder height without pain.

Just Quit- heck with giving them notice! How much notice do you think that overdemanding manager would give you if he was going to fire you? NONE!
