Dress Code, Lingo, Break Time & Stocking Procedures for New Employees
Permalink

Just got hired last week. I have yet to have training or any kind of orientation. I'm a male. I imagine they provide the uniform top, (not sure what color) and just wear khakis and comfortable shoes?? Pretty much what colors can and can't you wear? All company's have certain abbreviations that they use...name some that Owen's uses? Also, how does break time typically go...how long? My job is a "floater," so I work in several different departments. I'm sure I'll be stocking as well...what's the procedure for (lets say) stocking bread? Do you just go by the dates or are there certain labels I need to be aware of?

All help is appreciated!

Thanks :)

Yes they provide the uniform top... In my store you can wear black, white or grey under the uniform top.... Then its either Black or tan pants ..... But all stores are different..... So I would just check with your store..... As for breaks I think it 15 mins... At least that is what is where I am at .... But most take longer than 15 mins ..... here it is 4 to 6.75 hrs 1 break 7 to 8 hrs 2 breaks 8 plus hrs. 2 breaks + plus a lunch bu t if you work straight 8 you can request a lunch ...... As for stocking can't help you there because I am front end employee...

Yes, they'll provide a top. It's a blue polo shirt here. You can buy additionals for $7 each. Black khaki's and black shoes.

The previous poster is right about breaks, how it was here, at least.

Under 5 hours, 1 15 min break. Over 7 hours, two fifteen minute breaks and a 30, however I'm sure it varies.

Stocking bread is different than other items. There's code on most of them that'll say like: Sun, which means Sunday is the last day it should be out before it's marked down, even if the expiration date is a few days further out. I've stocked bread a few times, it's not that difficult.

Most stuff is already rotated foodwise, as long as you don't have junk sitting in the back room for months. Not as big an issue with non-perishable items. (household, drug gm, etc).

At any rate, I wish you the best of luck. I threw my back out working at Kroger for a year and a half, I had to quit and now I can't work at all. Be careful.
