the WOW program
Permalink

so yesterday I was called up to the conference room where this stupid co-manager we have at my store spent the better part of an hour explaining this great new program Kroger is rolling out called the WOW program.  As I was sitting there listening to her spew sh*t from her mouth to the half dozen employees in the room, all I could think was that everything she was saying should already be fully implemented at all Kroger stores throughout its vast empire.  She is regurgitating basic retail operation 101 fundamentals that any idiot with common sense should be doing day in // day out.  So why aren't we and where did the mighty ship go adrift?  I got some ideas on where to point fingers at.  One of them is obviously the middle man Union.  With them interfering on discipline matters, it makes for complacency. This tumbleweeds into lazy employees and a management team who is unable to kick them in the ass. But this whole WOW scheme just seems so corny. So disingenuous.  If it works I will be amazed.  And why do they want us to say "thank you for your business"?   Trying to get certain people to amp it up a notch is going to be tough.

I had to go to that meeting too a couple days ago, I get a call from a manager and he's like, oh you haven't gone to the WOW meeting yet...
I get off the phone and i'm just like thinking wtf is a WOW meeting. lol
It was right after I got back from break too, so I ended up having like a 40 minute break. I didn't complain. :P

Easy now. Somebody in the kroger empire needs to justify their 6 figure salary, so they came up with this old retread. Instead of wasting time and money on pledges and more customer service badges, I think fairly compensated employees give the best customer service. Or as the adage goes, you get what you pay for.

I thought the same thing. Do they call it a "meeting in the box"? Lame. I saw it at the managers meeting and was SO GLAD I didn't have to listen to it one on one. My eyes would've rolled out of my head and down the stairs.

I haven't heard of meeting in the box, but i've heard of a dick in a box.... :P

from what I gathered at this meeting we had, it is a way to boost your store's OSAT score.  This is where the customer's call up and do a quick survey on their shopping experience.  I guess it finally gets rated on a scale of 0 to 5 and so they are trying to get more 5's by trying to brainwash each and every associate to go above the call of duty and WOW each and every customer in any way possible.  For the better, smarter employees, this is just basic operations but then we have a lot of sub par idiotic employees that could give a rats ass about anything but themselves.  You know who they are and if you lay in bed one night thinking hard about these individuals you can surmise what their personal lives are like pretty easily. I could write paragraphs on the whole premise of "you get what you pay for" employees.  Kroger needs to do a better job in hiring good quality people.  Then they must give them adequate training and coaching.  Weed out the mistakes and ensemble a work force that gets it.  Anyways, the 2nd part of the WOW program is trying to boost employee morale and to get those survey scores we take higher.  There are goals set for each store.  I've actually noticed that our store manager is literally walking around the store every day and saying hello to all the employees now as if he cares.  This is kind of funny b/c just several weeks prior I was speaking to our district manager about this very thing saying that he never does it and it truly effects the morale of the employees.  Well enough said for now.  You all should get the point on what WOW is for

Speaking of OSAT, apparently the store I work in was the lowest in the country this week for OSAT. Not in the division, in the whole company. We rocked the 13% score.

Remodeling is killing us. Old people don't like change very much.

Wow!

All of a sudden, our store's 60% score doesn't seem so bad now. Speaking of the surveys customers take, I now know the survey form has a language filter thanks to a recent comment which had a few [xxx]'s sprinkled amid the complaints. Another scorching comment used the word "flippant" to describe one of our checkers and I have to say, that's not a word I'm accustomed to reading/hearing! As wrong as this sounds, I admit that I get a good laugh sometimes out of the negative survey responses we get. I know it's not funny when people have bad experiences somewhere and I sure as heck don't find it funny when it happens to me, but the negative comments sometimes just strike me as comical.

Yeah, if there are good quality employees with brains that you can get for 7.40 an hour minus union dues and a maximum of 28 hours a week, you would be the best magician around. They should put a revolving door at our store with the turnover rate we have.

It's not true everywhere.
I'm part time, and I'm scheduled 35 hours next week.
